We have an Amazon Prime box..fairly useful.. a few days ago the remote control stopped working and so I thought I will have a go at Amazon.
Only to realise that the Remote Control needed a software update!!! And it happened auto magically when I went to the 'settings' page. Who would have thought that a remote control would need a software update rather than hitting them hard so that the batteries work..
Can't we have somethings like they were in the old times...

And...Er...What is your industry/work role?

But I certainly understand the issue! Car diagnostics are now all done via soft/firmware; even the key quite likely has a chip in it - for security!

Won't be too long before you can run your entire household from your phone!

But technology can 'backfire'! The VW scandal is an example! And I still remember Dave Allen's hilarious skit about his 'talking' Renault 25!

Out in Manchester last night, me an Missis T rolled in at 2 pm. (Life in the old dog yet). Anyway we were in a restaurant, cafe Istanbul about 20 of us. We were sat at the table from 8-11pm. A mobile phone was seen once and that was to see how long a missing couple were gonna be. That aside it was a glorious 3 HR of, well talking like you did in the good old days. Not a Facebook in site.
up until last night I would of been inclined to agree that the robots are taking over.

There is a really good restaurant near us who take your order on a tablet type thingy.
It now takes twice as long to order than a pencil and pad used to.
Julie Walters....'Two Soups' revisited modern style

But the order goes straight to the kitchen and is printed out in front of the chefs before the waitress leaves your table

This reminds me of my old neighbour when he had a Renault25..
He used to have a row with it nearly every morning when stuck on the A40...
When it insisted he was about to run out of fuel...
Even though he never ran it below half full...

Sounds like a firmware update rather than a software update

Jeez get it right mate :) :)

Did your eyes glaze over yet? :)

No.. it was software rather than firmware.. the Amazon remote has a voice activated search on it.. While some of the buttons were alright, the voice function stopped working. So it must be a patch update to fix audio functionality rather than a firmware

Agree.. some of the things I see make me wonder what kind of world will the kids inherit..
