For techy geeks like me, the contributions to my 'right knee flex' thread yesterday made for interesting reading.

Today, I'm wondering about shoulder rotation.

If you rotate back well but stop rotating on the way through, what shot shape can you expect?

Can shoulder rotation be a cause of hooks and overdraws?

How prominent is shoulder rotation in your thinking?

Are you still stack and tilt?

The answers you get may differ from what you're being taught if you are, especially the back leg one.

As far as I know, if your body stops turning on the way through, your arms carry on and the ball is starting left and going more left.

Can't see why you would stop your shoulder turn like that! Why do you ask?

However, depending on what your forearms/wrists do, serious low pulls duck-hooks could happen (right wrist rolls over left closes face) as could short high slices (right wrist rolls under left opens face).

I would concur with R3 that if you stop turning your body it becomes all arms and goes left but I am no expert.

For me, my left shoulder dictates the length of my backswing. I had a tendancy to rotate as far as my shoulders would go and then try to go further back by collapsing my right leg and overswinging with my arms which was causing me all sorts of issues. My pro has said that once my shoulder has gone as far as it can go, that's when the downswing starts. I don't think about anything on my downswing.

I would imagine you could expect pushes/blocks, maybe hooks. Basically anything that starts right of target.

I used to have a classic slice and once most of the obvious flaws were corrected (weak grip, aligning left etc.) my pro said I was starting my downswing with my shoulders, spinning them open and causing an out-to-in swing path. To correct this, I had to concentrate on a full shoulder turn on my backswing and then try and hold my shoulders there as I started my downswing. He said initially I should over exaggerate it and I know I'm doing it right when I'm hitting blocks/pushes.
