team of the year

I'm always bemused by these Sports Awards things

Colin Montgomerie got Coach of the year???????

He was Captain of the team and picked the pairings.......

Where were the coaches of the football teams and other sports, etc...??? the guys who actually did the coaching that helped the athletes get to where they are............

Should we not be happy Colin got it.....or did he not coach a team of men for a few important days.

Nothing against Monty, he did a fantastic job. I didn't think he would be a good captain but i was proved wrong big style.

Captain of the Year would be a perfect award for him.

But there is a huge difference between a coach and being a captain.

Didn't Monty say he had Gmac, Lee and Kaymer up there with him? Looked remarkably like Ross Fisher or is the Speckled Hen beginning to take over.....

Totally agree, his title was captain, imo a joke decision.Coaches are there day in day out.To be perfectly honest what was Ian holloway doing there as well? :D :D :D

If coach of the year came from golf then I guess Pete Cowan is the correct answer, World no 1, US open winner, Open winner and a few Ryder Cup players in his "stable"

I thought that also, but then I wasn't sure, and I wondered if he just said he had two of that years major winners and the world number 1 in his team, and it just happened that 2 of the three people were standing there.

I'm pretty sure that's what he meant when he mentioned Kaymer.

As for the rest of this thread...Do we always have to find something to moan about?

It's not often that our sport gets as much recognition as it's getting right now...yet we're still moaning that the RC team didn't "deserve" it or Monty "wasn't really a coach".

You are allowed to enjoy life, you know lads ;)

Of the other two coaches up for the award, the only one worthy was Andy Flowers...but he'll get it next year when England retain the Ashes in Oz for the first time in forever.

Ian Holloway did a good job, but in reality, he took a load of on loan, premiership quality players (and Charlie Adam) and got them promoted. A good job for sure, but he hardly had loads of competition (and I'm a Forest fan!)

I actually thought the same thing "he isn't a coach" a captain yes, and he did a very good job but I doubt he coached anyone maybe inspired and pushed and gee'd up but no coaching

Seve was a coach when he was Ryder Cup captain. He was telling Monty how to play his shots.

Thought the oddest award of teh night was Beckham's Lifetime achievement ?????

And just what has he won to deserve that, whether he is a nice guy or not ? Age 35 for god;s sake ?
