Team Match and NO Shanks!

Hi Guys thanks for your sympathy last week when I lost my club team match thanks to a couple of unmentionables.

Tonight we had a home match at last.

I played well and won 6&5 and NO shanks. Thank goodness.

You know what though, there was barely a short iron shot were I wasn't thinking about shanking it. Amazing how it haunts us.

Anyone else have this experience? How long do you normally take to get over the demons?

Sometimes on the range i shank my 60*, Dont know why, it just creeps in.

Sometimes takes 10 shots to get over, its actually quite funny because try as i might, they wont go unless i walk away from the bay and come back with a fresh head.

It is a recurring nightmare for me.

I get them with the short irons but it can afflict the whole bag.

My cure is to hit the ball with both feet together,it works!

Once had them so bad I played the back 9 at Quinta do Lago North like that.

Once you start the fear sets in and that compounds the problem as you get rigid and don't clear your body out of the way on the downswing.

To get rid get weight on balls of feet and really think of a good hip rotation through the strike so your chest is facing the target, really clear that left side out of the way and the club will drop into the correct position.

Do not stand further from the ball - worst thing you can do.

The shanks seem to go away when I stop and think about what's going on in the swing - for me it's moving the weight without rotation of the hips. I then focus on the rotation again and that seems to do it. Birdieman said it quite well, too.
