Hi Guys

Do any of you out there represent your club in team matches, and if so what format do you play?

My local club are struggling to get a team together this year, and the main reason given for the lack of interest is the format, scratch foursomes.

Was just interested to see if this was the norm around the country?

Play in inter club matches

4BBB Match play

Don't think any club round here plays foursomes scratch as a format

Seems a bit too serious for an Inter Club match

We have the Moray and Nairn league 6 teams

Scratch, which is all played over a weekend with all the teams playing against each other.

Handicap, singles matchplay, a rota of home or away in a certain order then a Super Sunday where all teams play at the same course. teams of 9. 3 5-9 3 10-16 then 3 16 and above, i think

My club plays in a couple of inter club scratch KO competitions. They are both 5 foursomes in the morning and 10 singles in the afternoon.

Personally I think it's a great format.

Are we talking social matches here or matches that go towards leagues and KO ?

We also have two scratch teams - 5 players per team

Then a mid HC team

2 players 6-9 , 2 players 10-13 and one player above 14

We struggled to get teams for the foursomes . matches are played off scratch but to qualify the combined handicaps are a minimum total of 14 from last years finishing handicap .

We were lucky to have 5 pairs for the first round last yr , i got outa my sick bed to make up the team in round 1 :(. we had loadsa offers by time we got to the final tho , :)

League matches

We have a mid HC team which play in a different 4BBB league which has no problem getting players, but this is for the club main team

Ah right

We wouldn't enter a team in a league that - would struggle to get players - it's a very hard way to play golf

Scratch 4somes sounds like a competitive format, we play this in our county club ko with teams of 8, 4somes AM then singles PM.
We also play 4BBB scratch matchplay medal with 10 a side, with max 5 cat 1 golfers, interesting scores as 18 holes played medal even if 2 behind playing the 18th can be a 2 shot swing and tie!

Not surprisingly we are in the same leagues, we also play the winter scratch which is 4 scratch 4somes matches - hard work imho and not a good format at all, but thats what it is so I play if theyre short

We don't enter it mate

Zero interest from the players at the club

IS the right answer imho lol

We lost the first 2 we played and then conceded a walkover in the 3rd game as our lot didnt want to travel and play on temp greens. Not sure how they got on at the weekend but we're putting out pretty week sides.

What makes the format even worse is that you play the game out for the full 18 holes so you dont even get any respite if you take a hiding! At Gog one of our pairs wouldve lost 6&5, bad enough but the final result ended up 10 down!!!!

Sounds like hell

Especially with the amount of serious golfers in some of the clubs

It's bad enough getting battered by 14 year old little Johnny in the summer :D

Main County inter club comp is Scratch Foursomes played over the Winter, have two teams .
Also scratch league and handicap league.

Over 55's play 4BBB scratch matchplay with 6 in a team, have two teams.

Plus social fixtures and mixed too.

Play in some inter club matches (when selected). These are "friendly" affairs in better ball format. We do have scratch teams and handicap sides for things like Mail on Sunday, Hillman Trophy etc but I never feature and have little chance of doing so

We have 2 club teams that play in 2 leagues ( squad of players is the same ) one league is scratch foursomes, the other scratch 4bbb. We also have a friendly team who play hc 4bbb. Scratch foursomes is a good summer evening league and the scratch 4bbb games are all played weekends, hence the same squad of players for both leagues.

Seems to work ok.
