Had some very helpful chipping lessons off Dan Grant at Queslett park but it has now been sold for a housing development, unfortunately Dan is no longer teaching in the foreseeable future so anybody know a good teaching pro around Birmingham (I am in Edgbaston)
Looking for more general lessons (grip, stance, alignment etc) and new shinys are not the answer, would rather spend the cash on a good pro!! :mmm:

Thanks

I would recommend

Neil mcewan at Maxstoke £30 per hour ( off grass too)
Alistair Davies at forest of arden £25 half hour

Both are top class coaches.

Big up for Neal McEwan at Maxstoke. One of the best there is and judging by some of his "clients" he must be doing something right.

Uses video, grass range and keeps it simple for us simple golfers.

Kings Norton always had the pick of up and coming teaching pros.

According to the website - Kings Norton GC has recently been named as a County Coaching Academy...

Lessons have always been a big thing there.

(could be outdated, of course)

He emailed me the trackman results after my lesson last week, I'll ask him tomorrow what it all means 😀 best teacher I've had,

Go see Jamie Cundy at Direct Golf Solihull, just off the Becketts Farm island.

Jamie used to be the head pro at Edgbaston GC. He also does PGA lessons at The Open Championship every year. I have been having lessons off him for the last 18 months and my game has improved massively.

The facility at DG is great. There are grass bays during the summer and a big chipping area with a nice sized green to putt on.

Isn't David Fulcher at Egdbaston GC, he's quite good, Chris Ryan at the Belfry (who I use) and Jon Watts at Drayton Manor GC.
All 3 good blokes.

Thanks Gents, a few to think about.
One thing about Dan Grant was he kept it simple, was easy to talk to and down to earth so just need to work out which of these is right for me, Edgbaston GC is literally five mins round the corner so that would make more sense, anybody use David or Craig there?

I'm not too keen on DG at Becketts farm as most of the guys there just love themselves too much, great facilities I admit and do tend to use it.

Had a playing lesson with David when he was at the Belfry followed by some pitching advice. I'd recommend him.

A mate who's off single figures has been having a number of lessons with Craig at Edgbaston over the summer. He seems to highly recommend him if that helps at all.

Probably also worth mentioning that since David joined two years ago (ish), they changed the pro sho and made a teaching facility with video etc, also made significant changes to short game area although I haven't seen it complete.

I live just under 1 mile from Becketts so this was the first place I had a few lessons. I had Jamie and although I think he's good, I rate Ryan at Ladbrook Park slightly more.

I've got 4, 1 hour lessons with Derek Simpson at The Belfry coming up soon, he seems to get good reviews as well.

My 2 mates are members there and you're correct. Everyone speaks very highly of the pro and lessons are a big part of that club. There's a young girl that teaches there as well now (her name escapes me) but we asked about the 3 of us having her give us a 18 hole playing lesson. £90 for the 3 of us which I think is a brilliant price for what you're getting.

Be interesting to hear how you get on. I'm on the look out for a new teacher...

Will post a short review after my first lesson Mike, it's just an initial lesson to check grip, stance, alignment etc and not expecting any eureka moments. It s more to see how I get on with him as I was comfortable with Dan at Queslett and not had that with the previous lessons but I am hopeful

Mike, had lesson with David on Wednesday and initial impressions are good. It was the indoor room and all looked good with modern equipment etc. David is easy to get on with and was just general chat about my game, problems I am having etc and then hit a few balls to assess me.
Identified a problem straight away and showed me on the video my good and bad shot (s!). Explained it all and made sure I understood but he does keep its simple & straight to the point (no waffle or over technical talk)

We went through a few drills and could see small improvements even after the first lesson, I managed to get an hour on these last night and will continue with them as make a lot of sense to what I was doing wrong (and more importantly what I wasn't aware of) and will book again with him in next 2/3 weeks
Also worth mentioning that there was no pressure at all to re book a lesson or block book any, left it completely to me to decide and I appreciated that.

Overall made me feel at ease pretty quickly and talked a lot of sense
