A couple of weeks ago I played an 18 knockabout comp my brother and his pal had arranged it was £40 to play and all the lads were given a load of Adidas and taylormade golf gear (we came last).

anyway everyone was given a sleeve of taylormade tour preferred X golf balls, socks an a cadburys ripple. being a Pro V1 x player playing off 23.5 I nearly gave them away cos I just thought they were cheapies. I never did cos 4 lads wanted them and I thought I'm not upsetting three to make one happy. So they just ended up sat in my bag.

last night I played in a nine hole comp and thought, sod it al use them because I had no pro V1s left. I had been struggling with my driving (SLDR) of late and then, Bang 250 yd straight down the middle. The second bang was my chin hitting the floor. My regular playing partner was shocked. I was about 170 from the pin with wind across the first and not being a big hitter pulled out me 5 iron and bang it ended up 6 yd from the hole pin high on the first cut. 5 mins later am screaming me head off having me first ever birdie having chipped/putted in with a seven iron.

what a start. My next drive again about 230-240. The ball flight was just fantastic. I finished with 18 points. And was livid as I missed 3 flippin 3 footers and lost one of me new best balls which cost me another couple of points. When I lost me ball on the same hole a par 5 ( zig zag I ) I was 160 from the pin, oak tree in front, pond 50 yd behind that and pin 8 yd from pond, wind into face. it finished three foot from the hole. It was my best shot of the year. Missed putt. I could go on but suffice to say Cheerio to the pro Vs for the rest of the season at least.

Anyone else stumbled across these balls or any other piece of golfing equipment that's improved there game.

Yep, good balls. But modern balls are so good that I think it would be difficult to distinguish the performance of the decent Titleist, Srixon, TM, nike, Callaway, Bridgestone balls.

To be honest I doubt you can explain your good play solely on the basis of the ball but by all means carry on with the TM TP X.

There is a ball that goes 10 yards further for me. (yes, just the one).

Mostly, I leave a sleeve of them on the mantelpiece and wait for the day when I know I'm going to hit it straight.

They have a lot of dust on.
