Hi all. Just bought a Taylormade spider putter and think it is brilliant even though it does look like a Klingon weapon. Has improved my putting stroke as before I was using cheap putters and waving them around like a magic wand. I now feel I have a putting stroke! Does it pay to buy a really decent putter?

I tried one and was unimpressed. Each to their own. That is why there are so many styles out there.

Enjoy it. Putting is confidence, and if it gives you that, great.

I have both the original and its itsy baby brother. I have to say they are great putters. I am not one of those hung up on putter looks. If it isn't too unsightly behind the ball and has good alignment aids thats good enough for me. The feel is great and I have huge confidence on 6-10 footers now and starting to make them on a regular basis.

I think you might have answered your own question...or are you saying the TM putter isn't a really decent putter? ;)

Anything that improves the putting is really what matters, even if it does look like golfing zimmerframe... :)

Thing I noticed about the spider & itsy bitsy is that the difference in front blade & the oddity behind in colour. The thing seems more like a blade when you mentally loose the black part of the mallet & for me is enough to accept it.

EDIT: as far as the looks go... I'd call it a cattle brand...rofl

On the subject of cost, its amazing really that we're quite happy to shell out £200+ on the latest driver but more than £70 on a putter that is used on approx 1/3 of your shots is over-doing it! I know a lot of us have spent on putters but the general populace seem quite happy with a £14.99 Dunlop.

Mind you if it works........................
After the game on saturday I was mucking about on the green with my mate and his 2 kids. I borrowed his daughters Slazenger 1 1/2 ball 9 year-olds putter and promptly sank 2 x 15 footers!! And the feel was fantastic!!

I'm pleased for you. Anything with the AGSI insert gets my vote (flat lie or not!!)

I tried 8 different TM's yesterday and thought all were rather good.

I have a Monza Corsa, which is described by many I play with as a "spaceship on the end of a stick"....I think it's conservative compared to a spider or eenie-weenie.

Had one swopped it with HTL.

Looks like a broken piece of the DeathStar to me.

Much happier with a blade style but as this wise forum knows it's down to personal preference.

Confidence not price is king for me.

My putting was truely awful until I bought a Spider. Now it is only awful...

I noticed a massive difference straight away and cut down on my puts per round by about a third.

When money allows I will add the itsy bitsy to the collection.

As for the looks, I love it. When I was looking for a putter I wanted whateve felt the best but wanted something that would stand out on the course too.
