On the "what have you bought today" thread, I mentioned I picked up a Taylormade R15 10.5* regular flex shafted club for the silly price of £65. It is as new, without a mark on it. It was purchased via a friend of a friend, who apparently likes having all the latest kit (fair enough). As you may know, this club came out last year, and has two adjustable weights for draw and fade. I just used it, and to be honest, if you can't drive using this club, don't bother playing golf. Before striking the ball, I set the bias to a slight draw. This took about 15 seconds to do. Every time I struck the ball it went dead straight in the direction I wanted it to go. It was more like using a magic wand than a golf club. The only ball I hit off of the fairway went into a bunker I have never managed to reach before. Yes, my ball was going miles. I just wish I could do something similar with my new irons, but I am working on it.

Well done great news, now keep it up.

Just imagine what you could do if you got a proper fitting

Having just ordered a R15 430 I'm really pleased to hear they're such great clubs. Just wish I could have picked one up for £65!

Looks like im giving up golf then:D

If you set it up for a slight draw how comes it was going straight?:)

Give it a week.

Absolutely. I think most inexperienced golfers have a natural fade.

A fade is not a mild slice. Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods preferred the fade. Pros use good technique to play a soft fade. High handicappers use bad technqiue, often over the top out to in to hit a weak slice.

What ever. It has helped with my slice then. I just wish all my clubs clubs could be adjusted like this (apart from my putter of course)

Wait until the fairy dust wears off and you can't hit it for toffee

In my limited experience this hasn't happened. I have slowly replaced all my cheap original kit, and whilst a few clubs didn't work for me, which I moved on, all the ones I have fely good about from day one have remained consistent, even when I haven't LOL

As an example, I purchased a cheap Dunlop hybrid. I loved the feel of the club, and new that eventually we would become very good friends. After a bit of perseverance my suspicions were correct. As a result, I purchased the 24* version of the same club. On the other hand, I had previously bought a Golden Bear Hybrid, which felt wonderful until I actually struck the ball. I never managed to get on with it, and it is now up for sale. I am fully aware that not every shot I ever hit with the R15 will be a great one, but from the moment I picked it up and struck the first ball, I knew we were going to have a special relationship. Perhaps I should ask it to marry me ?

I had the same thought when I got my Callaway XR, it now has good days and bad, it will wear off as others have said. I promise you.

If this the case, it will be left in the corner of the garage away from all the other clubs, and be left to think about it's actions !!

Ive been keeping an eye out on Ebay for an R15, to many still want silly money for them though.

I won one in the range christmas raffle, best £20 worth of tickets ever! Had got rid of my driver as it had a permanently open face that caused massive slices ( ) but the R15 is much straighter. This may have something to do with the stiff shaft (stock) and me having learnt tnot to try and belt the living daylights out of the poor ball but I am seriously impressed.

On the downside, it has only had 2 outings so the magic might yet wear of............

Well, it had it's third outing today, and every day has been good for it. Don't get me wrong, every drive I have made using it hasn't been brilliant, but overall my standard of driving since buying it has increased drastically. I can't emphasize how easy it is to use.

Can i ask roughly how far you're hitting it? Miles is a bloody long way

About 600 yards, or did I mean feet ?

I am quite an old bloke who hasn't been playing long, and has the flexibility of a hair brush. During this wet and cold weather I am getting about 200 yards when I strike it well. This holds up OK when I play against the majority of the players in my club, but of course there are a few who strike a good drive.

I play off of 28, and today I was playing a bloke who plays off of 20. On the 6th I hit a reasonable drive, and then a good hybrid shot, as a result I ended up only 10 yards in front of his drive. He then hit a fantastic second shot with his 3 wood. The eventual outcome was we were both one over. My single putt was as good as his massive drive. The best thing about my new R15 is the ease it allows me to hit a clean straight shot. There is no driver in the world that will enable me to hit a ball as far as the man I refer to.

if you are going to get the hang of this forum lark you need to add at least 50 yards to your driver distance when ever you mention how far you hit it;)
