Just after a little bit of advice! I was thinking of up grading my irons and I really like the look of the R11 irons!! I play off 21 handicap! Would these irons be any good for me with such a high handicap or what irons would be better suited for my playing ability!! Just love the look of the r11 irons!

If you are a 21 looking to get better these will be good for you, if you are a 21 looking to play a few games a year get some Ping G20.

As always, have a good hit with them before you buy.

I had a set which I just sold on. A very good club that would definitely suit. I got them when I was having real swing problems and needed the extra forgiveness but now I've found my game again in 2012 I've reverted to my old TM TP's. I would go somewhere and try them. I don't think you'll be disappointed

Oh I'm definitely looking to improve my game in out in comps every sat and I've not confident in my irons what so ever!! Not getting any distance with them at all!!!

Like Homer says above then, they will be a good fit if you hit them well, they are forgiving and long but not shovels.

My dad has a set of G10 irons but I'm not a big fan of the fat sole on the club heads
have you used them, buy a set that are going to last you even when your h/c comes down, ask yourself WHY do people seem to sell the r11's after a few months, there are loads for sale on flea-buy and the like.

Don't get me wrong I have used them and they are a good club! I just preferred the look of the r11 irons. Why do people sell on the R11 irons so quick are they not good if you improve or are they one good for high handicap players

ask someone who has sold them, some buy them because they are the latest gimmick and a must have for the posser value,go to a good store that has a fitting service and try as many clubs as you can and pick the ones that are best for you, forget the name on them who cares what make they are so long as they are the best for your game.

What was your main reason for selling these clubs??? Do they only suit for so long or did you just want to upgrade

Why do people sell on the R11 irons so quick ......

they don't necessarily.

whilst I will admit that I do not have the statistical evidence I am prepared to make a financial wager that the proportion of R11 clubs on ebay simply reflects the number of sets purchased rather than anything sinister - as implied by anther poster!

personally I rather liked the R9 tp irons - so I bought some years after they were launched!

as others have said - buying a club because you like the way it looks and feels is half the battle; it needs to generally suit you too, and the R series should do that for most people.

obviously with all these sets on ebay they must represent a reasonable second hand purchase opportunity as well!!!

what is the point of buying a set of secondhand clubs if you wish to improve,if they have been fitted they would have been fitted for someone else!!! buy a set that have been fitted to your game and swing,go to a store that has a full trackman type service NOT a driving range type that lets you hit a few balls and the shop assistant giving ohhhhhh! and ahhhhhhhh! in the background, lets face it most golfers tend to keep their clubs a few years not months.

he's a 21 handicapper playing a bit of golf and will have a 'new swing' in a couple of years, or earlier, who wants to know if, generally, R11 irons would be appropriate.

my view is 'probably' and unless I had any info to the contrary I would go with R300 shafts and standard everything.

btw - having sent some time looking at R11 irons and ebay I think your earlier comment about 'loads' is very misleading indeed. there are remarkably few standard sets of SH irons for sale.

would any player be better off paying out and getting properly fitted for irons - rather than buying something they like the look of - probably; but that wasn't the question asked.

despite the hype from time to time there are people for whom standard will be fine.

I have a set off R11`s which i purchased at the end off last year , and to be honest i think there a great set off irons , i brought the r11 driver , but could not get on with that , so tried out loads and ended up with the G20 driver.
But trying out the G20 & R11 at the same time could not get on with the G20 irons , so if i was you , get your self down for a try out with both sets off irons .
R11 IRONS ALL THE WAY FOR ME :whoo:

Tried the R11's and owned G10's. The G10's were horrible and all wrong for me. If you want real help getting the ball up in the air and want massive forgiveness then they are for you. To me they felt dead off the face though. The R11's in contrast are like butter. My handicap is more like 18 and they felt perfect to me. Itll be either these or Cobra Amp Forged or Titleist AP2's when I officially reach 18 hcp.

Let me quote.

"....here are the results for the 2012 TaylorMade R11 irons. The MPF is 508 points and in the “Conventional” category....If you are interested in this iron be sure and go out and demo it if possible so that you can compare it to your present irons or any other iron. It is designed for the very good player."

Say no more.

Not that anyone ever listens.....

So what your saying is not a good set of irons for a 21 handicapper

Quite simply I was in a huge slump and getting in a mess technically with too many thoughts and arguably too many lessons with the teaching pro I was using. Whatever, I needed something I could use with more forgiveness than the TP's which I already had (so didn't replace the R11's with them).

They did a job. I changed teaching pros, went to the Plane Truth swing (one plane) and got better. The real clincher as the 5 iron in the R11 was making a horrid noise and the por couldn't find a problem and wanted to send it to TM. Rather than have a gap or just putting the 5 iron ftom the TP's in, I decided to go for the whole TP set. Played well in a comp and kept them in the bag.
