taylormade r1 anyone got one

My mate Matt (aka Sundance on here) has one. He can't stop it going right but bombs his RBZ three wood. Probably not the greatest or most scientific endorsement. I've hit it at a demo day and hated it, especially the feel off the face

Weirdly this is my second review of the night as someone had just asked about the irons I have aswell!

I like the R1 a lot. I seem to hit it a lot more consistently than previous drivers and the thing goes a mile. If I'm honest, thats also probably a lot to do with the custom fitting I got for the shaft, but even so, still a big fan.

It feels great off the face and I seem to get a lot less spin and more roll than previous drivers.

The adjustability is amazing, but I'd strongly recommend getting it set up right with a pro and then leaving it alone - otherwise you'll be forever tinkering!

Best driver I've had and couldn't recommend it highly enough.

I've had a few hits with my mate's, I found it very clunky and dead feeling with no feedback at all. I'll be sticking to my Titleist 910 which gives much better feedback.

thanks for help, im going right with my anser driver so need a little bit of help

To be honest, I'd look at the reason why you're hitting it right with your anser first. The anser is a great driver and I think you can shut the face a bit more if you need to.

The levels of adjustability on the R1 are brilliant, but if you slicing your anser, you'll do the same with the R1 - you might just be able to stop it going quite so far right.

Personally, I'd spend 50 quid on a couple of lessons, before dropping 250 on a new driver! Best of luck either way though fella.

think lessons are probably best option i play with my friend who is a pro and helped me get my handicap drop from 28 to 15 since christmas when i first started playing, but im fighting the slice with the driver need a teaching pro to help now. hitting it 250 yards with slice but when i get it straight im bombing it 300 yards but only 4 out of 10 are straight, the rest are slice buy i can live with it but want the problem sorted out

I have the r1 and love it. I can feel where my mi***** are but its very forgiving. if you slice then you still will but I have found it a lot straighter & longer than my previous drivers. Again I was custon fit like jimbob courtesy of GM but if something happened to it tomorrow I would deffo pay for one to replace it although I think the shaft upgrade would cost me a few quid lol.

damn you swear filter it was mis hits :)

Just out of interest, what loft is your Anser? I had a 9 degree Callaway which i kept slicing right, then bought a TM Burner, but in high trajectory (12.5 degrees) and that "helped" (although i still sometimes slice right).

I had one hit of a mates R1 and hated it, another mate had a mk1 RBZ which i've hit a few times and loved it.

I love my R1, but like jimbob, I got fitted for the right shaft. A new club is not going to eliminate your fade, get that clear right now. The ball fades as that's how you are hitting it. Ping anser is a great club, I would book a lesson first, then if you really want a new club, go somewhere with a decent selection of shafts to try out. (Not just reg, stiff and xstiff!) but to the original question, I have one, love it, great distance but a little noisy. Love the look and the feel.

my ping anser is 10.5 set to 10. i had a 12 degree but lost to much distance

I should add that the fact I lose a lot right is nothing to do with the club, its all me and very much a mental block. I have a lot of trust and confidence in my 3 wood and hence just tee it up and smash it, no negative thoughts what so ever. If i could carry this over to my R1 I've no doubt it will fly just as well. I'm just having trouble letting my mental block go and keeping those mental thoughts of 'don't hit it right' from entering my mind. I'm sure a lot of people will agree that it's a lot harder to build up confidence than lose it (which can often be done in just 2 swings of the club in my case).

I'm enjoying my R1 now, couple of tweaks with loft and lie (that's the beauty of it) and confidence is high- was keeping up with 2 18 yr old 3 h/cappers yesterday;)

I have 1 about 3 months now. I love it. Get it properly custom fitted, smooth tempo and off it goes.
Great club and inspires confidence. If you naturally hit a high ball this is the driver for you as with the correct shaft you can keep the ball low.
I had the benefit of being able to test every other make and the R1 was 25 yards longer than my trust K15. Nothing else was really better than my K15.
Great club and I'm not a TM junkie but the RBZ 3w is also a fantastic club.

I find it not too different in distance off the shelf vs my old RBZ which had a custom shaft after a being fitted byTaylormade, but dispersion is a lot tighter. I'm going to tune it up on flightscope this week, but I can tell its low spin already and I would personally say more forgiving, although I have only hit the odd one off the toe as I play with an open face to draw, but it has not been much shorter as it's just gone lower and rolled out more.

Ok, so I have been tinkering a bit more lately and I am pretty sure I have found the perfect settings for me and I am very surprised......never thought I would be playing a 11.25* driver!

I have the dial at the bottom set a 3* open which is in real terms about 1* open due to setting it at 11.25, and the 10g weight in the heel.

With this setting I have yet to miss one right, most are 5-10 yard draws, the odd one a bit more and some just straight.

I will be very interested to get it on a flightscope to get numbers!

My brothers got one and hits it a country mile, I can't hit the thing for toffee though but then he was custom fit for it at Xstiff so no good for me anyway. I actually prefer the look and feel of the RBZ stage 2 out of all recent TM drivers.
