Hi all,

I thought some of you would be interested.

TaylorMade’s much rumored SLDR “MiniDriver” has finally made its way onto the USGA List of Conforming Club Heads.
The club, which is expected to be unveiled around the time of The Masters, is listed with a loft of 12 degrees. That loft and its head size, which sources say measures roughly 250 cubic centimeters, indicates that the club will be TaylorMade’s first entry into the growing trend of high-COR “driving fairway woods.”
If the SLDR MiniDriver comes to market, which it is expected, it will be a direct competitor to Callaway’s X2Hot 2Deep, the 2014 version of the club Phil Mickelson used as a driver in route to his 2013 Scottish and British Open victories. It will also compete against Ping’s new Rapture fairway wood, which measures 219 cc and has a titanium construction.
While the MiniDriver carries the SLDR name, the photos show that the club is more similar to TaylorMade’s SLDR fairway woods than the SLDR driver, as it does not have a sliding adjustable weight in the front of its sole. The club also appears to have a fixed hosel, meaning that it will not have the adjustable features of the SLDR driver of fairway woods.

In early February, a 3D-printed model of the MiniDriver was posted in our forum (pictured above) by member bruinsPATSirish. That club showed two adjustable weight ports on the front of the club, the company “Speed Pocket” and an adjustable hosel. While similarities exist between the clubs, it appears that the MiniDriver is something different than the 3D-printed model.

Basically strong 3 Woods

Wonder how they will sell to club golfers

For the majority of Club Golfers all they will be is a driver replacement, they'll have little to no chance of hitting any of these off the deck.

I'm a big fan.

I removed the driver from the bag last week leaving my Callaway 3 Deep as the longest club in my bag... and shot 4 over gross on Saturday, which is my best scoring round in a good while.

I know it's 25 yards shorter than the driver on equivalent good strikes, but I'm in the fairway much more frequently and OB frequency off the tee is greatly reduced. My plan is to play intelligent golf this year and only pull driver when it's needed.

In the right hands these will be long and accurate, I don't think many will try to play them off the deck but many will find themselves on the fairway.

Agree with this. Tried the 3 deep last year, great off tee, but I didn't stand a chance off the deck.

It's an interesting concept, I play a R11 however driving is probably the strength of my game. I can see how it would really benefit some though

Great to replace the driver, but what if you keep the driver do you need 2 three woods now? One for off the deck and one for off the tee. What club would you drop?

is there a price point for this driver yet? is it priced as a fairway wood or as a driver, or presumably somewhere inbetween. about £240 ish maybe?

i see that american retailers are already offering a free fairway or hybrid with any jetspeed driver, wonder if we'll see that offer over here. rumours that heads will roll at TM over the poor sales of the jetspeed range. but then there were the same rumours over the crown design of the R1 and the #ier marketing strategy.

my 3 wood already goes too close to the distance of my driver so i moved to 4 wood. i'm sure this will be fun to hit, but i can't fit it into my bag for the purposes of playing my home course.

Well Callaway priced theres as per 3 woods so when first launched were £180ish and the original 3Deep went below a £100 in the sales at xmas time despite not being out for a year (what a bargain thats turned out to be). Pings new one is rumoured to have a £399 RRP so they are going driver pricing route. I would think by calling it a "mini driver" TM are positioning it with driver pricing too

So this is out in a couple of days anyone interested in one

I only hit my 3 wood off a tee when the driver missbehaves and a 5 wood off the fairway anyway, it might be of some use to me

Is it just another gimmick though
