Taylormade M1 head - 9.5 swap for 8.5 460cc

On Sunday, a crack developed in my 8.5 460cc head.

Taylormade are replacing it for free, but no longer have any 8.5 heads available. so are sending me a 9.5.

This isn't ideal as you can probably imagine.

So, i wondered.... if anyone knows of any golf shops that may have an 8.5 sitting around (not many get sold), that i could contact to ask about a swap.

Clutching at straws i know but worth a shot.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

100%!!! Not satisfactory from Taylor Made. You need to go back to them in my opinion. They need to be speaking to their suppliers and getting you sorted in any way they can or getting you a new 8.5 M1 460.


You can get the 9.5 to 8.5 but it just changes lie and face angle so much. Its going to be such a different bit of kit.

Yeah i know mate. i hit a 9.5 to test yesterday. fiddled with all the settings etc. didnt feel the same
 
I've got in touch with TM.

the more i think about it the more you are 100% correct. Gonna try get this sorted.
 
Pretty sure TM ran a champagne about 999999.9999% of the world not having the correct loft in their drivers, then they just offer you whatever they have left in stock.... weak!

EDIT - I doubt very much a retailer will accept the swap if you try and arrange it, but I imagine Taylormade whould have no issues sending the replacement head to them and forwarding the 8.5 degree head on to you

I'll definitely be speaking to them about it.

I dont even need the shaft! just the head. I'd imagine most retailers would much rather be stocking a 9.5 head.
 
That is a bummer.. id complain enough until TM gave me an entire new M1 brand new model in the loft I wanted custom fitted to me..

go to the top and complain on twitter
 
totally unacceptable from TM. they haven't got your head as the new one is out January 27th. stick to your guns and you'll be staring down at the new m1.
 
I'm with the others.

TM know who they sent 8.5 heads to and should do the ground work to get one back, whatever that means between them and the distributor.

I realise it's possible that they won't be able to source one in acceptable condition - but they should at least take a few weeks to try!
 
Update - they are going to try to 'source' Me one from elsewhere. If not I'll be asking for the new one end of Jan. Only fair I think

long time to wait! id be on their case like mad .. every day
 
So to TMs credit, they have acquired me an 8.5 head and it will be with my pro tommorow.

They took it off the tour truck 😂😂.

Twitter is a wonderful place

A sweet result. Now you can sell it for 3 times as much as its worth as it will have a tour truck marking on it and some people LOVE that stuff.

Good job, worth the extra work.

This is my 3rd head now. My first one was off the truck as I complained when they told me it would be 6 weeks before they had an 8.5 (I bought it pretty much the day the released them), but that had the black rubber stopper missing so water would get in the head.
