Many many years ago, 15 to be precise, I remember playing at Brent Valley where I found a TM golf ball, I have no idea what model it was but it had gold\bronze coloured logo on it. At the time I didn't have an official handicap and was only just learning that stableford points existed but I could knock it around in about 15 over and played cheap golf balls (think dunlop DDH or similar) I remember this TM golf ball very well because the first drive I hit with it seemed to go miles, I don't know the exact distance, but remember thinking that it was further than I normally hit. Sadly, after about 6 holes, I lost that TM ball and don't actually remember ever playing a TM golf ball since...until Saturday.

As I was getting my shoes out of the cupboard I spotted the sleeve of TM tour preferred x that I was given by jimbob at the TM factory tour the other week so I thought I'd give them a go. The first two holes were safely negotiated in par and then I found myself in the 12th fairway (playing the back nine first) with 157 to the back edge with a very gentle breeze helping but not strong enough that I would think it would make much difference. My 7i normally carries about 145 and the green slopes back to front so I figured that was the club, I hit it well straight at the pin but it completely carried the green ending up in the rubbish at the back. Maybe there was more wind than I thought, I thought hmmm.

Then I find myself on 18, 122 to the back into the breeze. My PW carries about 108 so not wanting to go in the back bunker that's what I went with and carried it straight over the green into the back bunker on the fly

A similar thing happened on 3 and then on 8 I went a club down on what I would normally hit and still flew over the pin.

Unfortunately my driver was misbehaving so I couldn't gauge any difference with that.

So here I am, wondering whether I just hit the ball better than usual or whether TM balls are actually longer-ier as well :D

Has anyone here played the TP-x and noticed any increased length or is it just a massive coincidence?

I don't mind TM balls but haven't played them enough to notice a difference, more importantly are they going to be your new ball of choice now?

They are on my list of Premium balls I will buy if I can find them on sale, but I won't be spending £34 a dozen on them when I can usually find Z-Stars or B330-S at £20

TM are my ball of choice. Used the Penta then the TP5 then the Lethal. Not tried the newest version yet but I don't find any difference in distance over the Pro V1x. Just think they are excellent balls for my game.

To be fair there isn't a premium ball I wouldn't play I don't think

Premium balls from all manufactures, like clubs with the same loft and shaft length from different manufacturers, all tend to go the same distance. So it more than likely isn't the ball.

The vast majority of it is in your mind, and if you think it will go further, there's a greater chance of you hitting a sweet strike to cause it to go further. But if it works for you then go for it.

I tend to play TM where I can pick up Penta's or Lethas at a knock down rate. Just got some Project As and am looking forwards to trying them out.

I have been using TM balls (Penta and TP5) as I had loads to get rid of. I have never found them overly long and certainly not to the extent of airmailing greens. Of all their balls the TP Red and Black were the best they ever produced and every bit as good as the Pro V

Tried Pentas when i got given a box - they didnt seem much longer and they looked really dull white

I have to say I hit my free lethals extremely well and felt they were longer and straighter. Alas I cant afford 20 quid a dozen let alone 30+ so I will stick with whatever is cheap :)

I got a sleeve of TM Project (a) balls on Saturday when i bought my SLDR mini. So gave one a go last night. Played it alongside the new AD 333 tour and found the later went ten yards further on every drive.

The new TM did feel good playing into the greens though.

I liked the Penta, but tried some Project (a)'s after reading a thread on here. Excellent golf ball. Goes miles, feels great, stops quickly.

i stopped using TM balls when they stopped the red and black, great ball.

I find loads of TM penta and lethal, but they just go in the huge bin of practice balls in the garage.

I had a free sleeve of Project (a) balls, I also thought they were good around the greens and good off the putter, but I do hit the AD333 significantly further, unfortunately the Project (a)'s are no longer with me :(

Definitely not a bright white and do tend to discolour quickly

First impressions of the TPX are that they are very resilient, much more so than the B330S the new model of which tends to scuff up pretty quickly. The TPX even had an encounter with an oak tree on the 3rd and bounced out into the middle of the fairway with barely a mark on it.

The one thing i am really liking about the new range of TM balls is the feel off the putter, they are great! While i am a hacker, I still want to have confidence in the gear i am using, the project (a) and the TP -X were great! In all honesty, i couldnt tell the difference between them with any club. The Rocketballz urethene is also very very similar and much cheaper too!

I quite like it when I find a Taylormade ball. I especially like Lethals, but would never buy them (it would bankrupt me - I lose too many of them!).

I actually very rarely buy balls these days. With the consent of the pro shop and green staff (of course), a couple of buddies and I occasionally go for a little hunt for balls at night with UV torches after busy society days (think of what happens to a white shirt under a black light in a club/disco and apply the same affect at night to a white golf ball). Local knowledge of the course in where to look helps, but last time we did it I came back with 70 or so hit once decent branded balls ranging between two pieces (like AD333s, etc...) and premium balls (including 6 hit once latest model Pro V1).

200 people come through the pro shop buying balls and usually proceed to slice or hook them into out of bounds areas while attempting to cut a corner on various holes. We find them, chuck the Dunlops/Ultras/Pinacles back in, put all the scuffed balls (including premiums) in the practice bag, use the hit once AD333/Soft Feel/PD Long/PD Soft/Burners/etc in bounce games and keep the hit once premium balls for comps! It has literally saved me a fortune and I get to play with virtually brand new hit once/used for a few holes balls most of the time, for free. Amazing.

I'm using the Tour Preferred X and I haven't noticed any big increase in length. I think they are great balls the only slight let down is that the cover seems a fraction harder than the Lethal which I loved using but that might just all be in my head!!

The Callaway SR3's I was given at the Callaway KoD day were pretty impressive so they would probably be next on my list but the TP X will be staying in my bag for a good time to come.
