Taylor Made Burner 09 Irons, First look.

Jeez mate, you bored round the outlaws by any chance? Next up you will be buying stuff you don't need from ebay. Better hide the credit card.

SO bored! Took the dog out 3 times so far...., been for a drive, watched some rugby now back sitting on sofa bored out of my skull, I need to start binge drinking!

I think the 09 tour models are actually better. They will never win any prizes as the best looking club but certainly from what I've seen they (tour version) do play well

I think 2009 will be an interesting year. Most manufacturers have already released certain makes and models and will already have invested and started production of the remainder of their new line. I wonder what if any advances there will be or whether as I assume it will be much of the same (X22 look pretty much like X20 etc)

I don't think TM will ever win any industry prizes for the best designed clubs but like Callaway and to a certain degree Ping, they are designed for the mass market and particularly the Burner, for the improver/high handicapper. I think to be fair they do have some decent clubs including the tour preferred and the TP forged.

Where I think these types of clubs (the cally X series as well) win is in their playability. The tour burner equate to the tour version of the X20 which I know a number of local PGA pros have in their bag and give them everything a club pro wants in a club. The basic model (X20 and burner) give the average golfer a wider sweetspot, good weighting and more forgiveness on bad shots. If it is looks you are going for the TM and Cally are not going to be your choice.

Abslutely horrific looking. Wouldn't put them in the bag in a month of sundays.

Is it me or does everything that comes out of TM look, as Andy so eloquently puts it, horrific?

Imurg,

I dont like any of TM's cavaties, game improvemtn irons but they do have some stonking looking blades. Unfortunately I cant justify a change of irons.

It comes down to the old " each to your own" bit doesn't it. I can't say I like TM gear but I like Ping???? How does that work?

And I changed my irons last year - HID says I can't change them for at least a couple more....

Boo Hoo...

I now use Burner Plus irons since testing them for GM. Agree that they are not eaxactly attractive but they certainly make the game a bit easier for high handicappers like me.

As for the new range of Taylormade putters, they are sexy and easy to use.

I love my TM tour burner 08s. Not the most attractive of clubs IMO. These clubs are about performance. I've gone 2 clubs longer I can happily feel confident pulling off what ever shot I want on a good day and the bad days- there are less of them.

The only draw back is that they are rubbish on short chips and pitches- not very good feel (compared to my old mizunos). Hopefully the 09 version will improve upon that.
