take a look at this bunker/gravel pit wrecked my score and my wedge.. This should be a bunker with sand in it. Playing in medal ball ended up on the gravel no sand just stones and rock hard mud and stone. Ended up taking a score of 9 the hole as i had to pick it clean hit it oob, re drop same place and wrecked my sm5 58 wedge see pics below, should i as committee for a new wedge what you think?

My Sister was telling me about having trouble in a bunker this weekend, ball was nearly plugged under the front lip. I suggested next time she take an unplayable and drop the ball in a better location.

The problem was there was no sand just stones, hard ground looked like concrete, surely you should not have to get penalize for the condition of the course no upto standard, you pay your green fees and expect the bunkers to be in ok condition not like this

I agree, but if the course isn't up to scratch you still have to play the prevailing conditions.
So perhaps consider the alternative route, to hopefully avoid the 9 was my point

Is that your pic in your avatar Mark?

if you were not playing in a comp, you didn't have to play from the bunker did you? i would have just taken a drop under penalty if i was worried about damaging a club.

As above, no real justification for compensation......you played the shot! That said, you are probably right to bring it to their attention. They could make the bunker GUR maybe if it's just going to wreck peoples clubs until it can be sorted properly.

You have the choice whether to play it or take any of the 3 other options available to you - at the cost of 1 shot.

Having made the decision to play it as it lies, any damage from the obvious potential - either to your score or the club - is your responsibility.

That wedge is by no means 'wrecked'! I saw a 'properly wrecked' one (also a 58 SM5) a couple of days ago - 0.5 cm square chunk taken out, down to the bronze coloured layer - that nearly sunk the shot and was used a couple of holes later to put the ball to a foot from 95m!

However, it's definitely worth pointing out the condition of the bunker to those in control of such things. I've seen similar looking conditions after downpours have washed away the sand and left the base. Several of us volunteered to help the Greenies replace/repair the damage. That provided some eye-opening insight into their problems - and them ours!

I trust you raked the bunker properly so that nobody else had the same problem!

Not sure what you mean but I am talking about the Avatar pic of the hunky dude holding a golf club. Off topic sorry.

If that big sod doesn't like your response......:temper: could be dangerous!

Agree with aboue post the wedge has battle marks, i just think the bunkers are terrible as you can see and there were a few worst than that i managed to avoid, it was a comp it was club champ qualifier.

I agree with this, golf is not always fair and too often bunkers are hardly a hazard at all.

If it were me, id have checked the local rule about stones in bunkers, assess my lie going by how my feet settled in the sand and play accordingly.

We have bunkers like that all the time. Its not that bad there are rake mark in it, and if they are rock hard just play it as a bare lie chip

Get over it, it not all meant to be easy, im crap but I dont blame the greens staff for leaving tufts of grass that give me a bad lie, or the weather and a bit of a hard lie. It golf , learn to live with it.
