Just a quick note to say that I played Swinley for the first time last Friday. It is absolutely magnificent.

I have played all the well known Surrey / Berkshire sand belt courses many times (with the exception of Queenwood) and whilst I fully understand that "best course" is entirely subjective, for me, Swinley beats them all.

It is the best inland course I have ever played. Really fantastic.

My top inland courses just got re-ordered slightly.

1. Swinley Forest
2. Sunningdale Old
3. St Georges Hill
4. Hankley Common
5. Woodhall Spa

Cheers,

Snelly.

It really is a great course. I'm lucky enough to get a couple of rounds per year on there and its a game I look forward to with great expectation. There is usually very few people playing and so you feel that you have the place to yourself. Its a great test of golf too with the greens being very, very slippery in the summer and some very tight drives. Definitely in my top 10 all time courses

A nod in agreement from here too - wonderful place.
I got told a story when I played there..

An Indian Princess has been a member for 50 years. She flies over once e week, every week for lunch with the "Girls", then plays 9 holes

On the putting green!!

And then flies home.

Only at Swinley!

Don't you either have to play with a member, or have a very special introduction, to actually play Swinley Forest. I heard it was one of, if not THE, toughest course to get on.

I know a few guys through Royal Ascot so I get a member invite. Like I say only once or twice a year and despite it being on my doorstep I look forward to it more than Chrimbo and my birthday. I actually think as a course it's better than Bearwood Lakes but that scores on the way you are treated there. Close call mind and if I have a decent round there in the summer it may edge back ahead of Swinley

We played on Friday after asking very politely some months ago. Our introduction came via a friend who held a corporate day at Swinley. But yes, it is difficult to get a game.

And yes, it is very quiet. We played 18 holes and saw 2 other golfers during the 4 hour round. Quite amazing really.

Through Facebook, I've caught up with loads of old mates. I used to live in South Ascot, and 4 of them have Artisan membership at Swinley. So I have an open invitation now, that when ever I'm in the area, to get in touch, and they will sort a game out for me. I've yet to take then up on this, but hope to this year.
