Hi
I was recently having a good few months of steady golf... then out of the blue I have a dreaded "S" with a 56 wedge.
Horrible thoughts appear on the next similar shot.. but I get by!
Then middle fairway 6iron straight right... confidence is shot!

In our midweek swindle I could not get any tempo and was nervous over every shot! Tops Thins you name it it was in my bag Wednesday night.
Even an old tip put it on the toe aim left wasnt working! So many swing thoughts, any tips please to help? Apart from down the range and hit 1000 balls! :whoo:

seriously though, J arthurs are the devils work and I'm prone to them from SI to 3 iron.

You are either basically 'falling' forwards into the shot, coming across and way outside the swing plane, coming too far inside on takeaway and return, or possibly other reasons but unless we see your swing its only guesswork.

However, based on what else you say I'm guessing you may have the dreaded EE (early extension) where you throw your hips towards the ball raising your spine angle and causing thins and J arthurs, do you also have pull hooks?

Take your stance and ensure you bend from the hips (not waist), hands hanging below shoulders, backside sticking out, imagine backside touching a wall and keep it there lightly brushing the wall on the backswing and ensure it does on the downswing.

As I say it could be many things but this might just hit the nail on the head.

Good luck.

Having come off the back of a major purple patch I was destroyed when out of the blue a case of the Sherman's peered their ugly head, not at good timing either, mid way through a semi finals ok match which resulted in me having a near arse torn 6&5

Anyway... One drill I revert back to which is great as it works on and off the corse is this... On the range it's perfect as it gets you on the inside with your weight back and forces you to turn. The only down side is you will lost about a club length. If I'm on the course and the Sherman's come, replicate the same drill addressing the ball it out of the shaft of the club,,, it works the same and will get you round the course with at worse a pull fade which generally ends up middle or right of the fairway,

I'm just back from 200 balls determined to fix this quicking, what I found works if you have the time is get a range ball PLASTIC basket, set up with the ball next to the basket with around 10/15 mm between the toe of the club and the basket edge. Focus on the takeaway staying on plane or every slightly outside as from the point at the top you have to drop in side in order to miss the basket. Try and do it away from people as you will ping the basket a couple of times, you can really concentrate on dropping inside at the top and keep the wrist hing on the way down in order to stay inside. If you have a garden you can also replicate this with an impact back and no balls.... Or even just a tee in place of the ball, miss the impact bag and flick the tee out the gound.

I sufferer with the Sherman's on a regular basis and both of these fixes work quickly, one other one you can use as part of your pre shot routine is to set up to something that stands out from the rear of the ground around you (divot, small weed, old tee on the tee box etc ) and swing to miss it on the inside, it will just train your body to get inside on the way down.... Keep your hands close to your body and ensure you turn through the ball.

Happy shanking :fore:

I was going really well in recent weeks, then fell to pieces in four-ball last Sunday. OK, I had a hangover, but barclays was so bad, i nearly nailed playing partner who was way standing over to my right. Lots of good banter, and they had a larf, but I was really unhappy and could do nothing to correct it. They told me not to worry, and game should come back.

I have been to the range since and all OK now. It happens when your arms work independently of body turn, or there is no turn, but maybe a sway instead. Because you don't use your body, your arms try to hit the ball be themselves and they have to move outside of the intended swing path, and the club meets the ball on the hosel.

My pro told me to 'pitch with the body', so use turn to do it all. To correct it, i went to the range and kept my toes pointing forwards straight, and kept my knees very solid, then turned around a stable base. Should soon get you back in biz.

Have a break (have a kit-kat), too many thoughts.

Hi All

What a difference 4 days make... got up nice and early Sunday morning and went to short game range, practice net and chipping green.
Stood on 1st Tee back foot slipped... OOB! 7 on the card.. great. From then on it was all good, timing was there chipped and putted well, walked off with 34 points, so can relax a little easier!

Aint Golf Great

had exactly the same happen to me, went for a lesson and found my weight was falling forward onto my toes in the downswing, had me hitting shots keeping my weight more back on my heels, and getting the feeling of getting the toe of the club to the ball first.also gave me a few drills to work onweek later and they've gone, had the best round of the year yesterday, don't try and fix them yourself go for a lesson, you'll be fine they'll go as quick as they started

What did you change

I didnt change too much to be honest, just made sure my tempo was better and I slowed everything down. Keeping my head still was a biggy though. Stopped my body moving forward over the ball at impact. Had the odd block but that was swinging inside to out too much..
Another round tomorrow after work so hopefully will continue the good work put in. Practice Parctice Practice...

If it makes you feel any better, someone once told me that a shank was often very close to being a very good swing. Didn't help me much I must admit!
as golf is a game of fractions any mis-hit is close to being a good shot- I had 81 of them Yesterday, couldve been a 67;)
