I have a problem with my swing speed of I get it right I think I play some good golf but when it goes wrong I lose it completely. How do others keep the same swing rhythm?

For me, I naturally Swing very quickly. I have slowed my backswing down dramatically by focusing on taking the club back slowly and precisely to a few set point, mainly where the club is at first parallel, then 3/4 Swing and finally at the top. I then just let the Swing flow from there, if I can route the club to the top well, then I can power through the down swing.

I may not have worded it very well, but there i posted some vids in the ask the expert section yesterday which I think show it quite well.

Virtually all the best swings work on a ratio of 3:1
3 parts back and 1 part through
They may be different speeds - Nick price had a really fast tempo, Ernie Else almost pedestrian
But the ratio of back swing to down swing as always 3:1

Personally I'd say the last thing you should do is think about tempo.
As Morpheus might say "don't think about hitting it, & hit it!"

The tour tempo works on the 3:1 ratio but also comes in different speeds within that ratio to encompass everything from the slowest, most deliberate swings, to those at the other end and really quick

Usually if I start playing badly, it's because I am thinking about some technical aspect of my swing, rather than just maintaining a good tempo, so I'm afraid I have to disagree with you on this one.

I had a problem with tempo. I looked into getting an orange whip training aid to help train the proper tempo and in the end settled on a SKLZ Gold Flex which is much cheaper and widely available at just over £50.
It teaches you the proper tempo as you can't swing the club too quickly. What is often missed is that it also forces you to adopt the correct sequence of the swing. It's also a good warm up device though you can feel a bit self conscious using one around the first tee 😀. Quite a few people have asked me about it when they have seen me using it.
I think some people make the mistake of making one or two isolated swings with it as you would if your were playing a shot. What has helped my tempo and sequence is to swing back and forward 10 or 20 times, like a pendulum, still with my real swing but swinging back on plane from the finish after each swing, if that makes sense? Do this repeatedly and especially just before you commence your round and it will help ingrain the correct tempo.
It's certainly helped my game and I would thoroughly recommend it ( I have no connection to the product). You can carry it in your bag, it doesn't count as a club but don't use it once you have commenced your round. That is illegal.
I hope this helps.

The backswing should definitely be slower than the forward swing, and you shouldn't rush the transition between the two.

A backswing of 125mph would be something to behold
lol

If you are looking for a tempo device, look for Tour Tempo, he has a book on the subject too

I use one of these too. You do need to be a bit careful with it as its heavy, and it can cause errors to creep in, like an early release. I like it though.
