I had a lesson today and the pro made some changes to my swing. I know it's normally to get worse before getting better but how long will it take??? I have an important game on 18th and am terrified now.

Shame because I had been playing ok recently.

Depends how many balls you hit after the changes. After I made changes it took me about 2 weeks for the changes to start feeling natural. That was playing twice a week and a range session in between.

What changes has your pro made?

I think it depends on what he's changed, and I would argue, how good a teacher he is. By that I mean, there is more than one way to get someone to make a specific change. My pro has a knack of giving really simple swing thoughts that make it easy to repeat.

With regards to how much practice with the new swing. I've heard everything from 1,000 to 10,000 balls on the range so who knows!

I had the same experience. Some thoughts for you.
The pro got me to swing better on plane. My hands are now above my shoulder in the backswing. My swing is now steeper and straighter and when I do connect properly the strike is so much sweeter. It does still feel like someone else's swing though and I have had 3 lessons and have played 4 rounds plus some range time. It is gradually getting there.
Played East Sussex National this weekend and struggled with it. However...it is a work in progress and it would be easy to revert back to my old swing. My playing partner sympathised but said you must stick to it every single time otherwise you are wasting your time having lessons.
There are some green shoots but it is very difficult particularly as I was playing well before. But to improve and be more consistent I needed to make changes to benefit the long run. Stick to it every time and practice.
Oh one more thing. At first I was utterly dreadful and ran back to the pro as I couldn't hit a damn thing, and had a comp coming up. I told him it wasn't working.
He took one look and said "well you aren't doing what I told you". I thought I was but I had slipped back to old ways without realising it. When he video'd me and pointed it out I could see that he was right so the advice is concentrate on implementing the changes on EVERY swing ensuring you are following the advice precisely, don't get lazy, and it will become permanent a lot quicker.
As for your comp, well maybe it will be good by then, but perhaps not, but stick to your guns, there will be other comps for you to win !
It is frustrating and tests your patience but I am getting there and I am already seeing some of the benefits. Good luck.

Thanks for your replys guys.

The pro corrected my swing plane and lowered a lot the first part of my back swing. Before I was coming up and breaking the wrists too early. It worked very very well with the wedges but with the irons it's a nightmare. After the lesson I stopped at the practice ground to hit few balls on grass and after less than 20 I was fuming in desperation... I have the second part of the lesson next Wednesday and will try to practice as I can't play this weekend due to family business.

I'm scared!
:D

Interesting....why go see the pro when you're playing well. Just make your mind up to go one way or the other. You can always go back to the swing change if it dont feel good for now.

I've gone the other way. My swing has gone off the boil but I can't get a weekend lesson with my pro until the 2nd as I've committed to some competitions and because he's booked up. Hoping it'll be a quick(ish) fix and that I can then work on it nicely for a week or so before the Forest of Arden
