After being a firm believer and pupil of the 1 Plane Swing, I am now working on switching to the 2 Plane Swing.
I've been a firm advocate of the 1 Plane Swing for some 2 years now and have enjoyed decent consistency, so why the change.
Well I think that maybe my body is not as athletic as I thought it was, something needed for the 1 Plane Swing. Also maybe my core strength is not up to scratch as after 2 days of golf my back is really stiff.
So as the 2 Plane Swing requires less athletisum but requires good timing and tempo I think this may suit me better.
So for the last week I've made a switch and with hindsight I think that maybe the 2 Plane Swing also fits better with my brain, strangely enough when I started on the 1 Plane Swing I thought this more logical.
Although very early days I think that the 2 Plane Swing has more power than that of the 1 Plane Swing, as the power comes from the chopping motion of the hands on the way down and with weight shift.
I only wish that I would work on a swing change in the winter rather than the season, but that seems to be me.....

You seem to be travelling on the same journey as I've been on. My natural swing is too flat to work as a one plane swing & I have been forced to introduce some steepness into it, along with a hip turn/slide at the beginning of the downswing. It now looks like a flat two plane swing, a bit like Jiminez, with a steepening movement early in the downswing. Jim Hardy doesn't say it but I believe you can be a little bit two plane or on the border between one & two plane. I once asked on the Plane Truth Forum "Is there a 1½ plane swing?" but I never got a satisfactory answer.

Could you incorporate a stack & tilt method , eg straightening the right knee on the backswing allowing more hip & shoulder turn without the strain on the body?

When I started lessons in December 12 we started on Plane Truth and tried to go one plane. It worked to a degree but over 2013 we started to go more two plane to improve path and it's something I felt more comfy with. I'm happy with where my swing is now and lessons being scaled back to work on short game only and long game only if something serious happens. If I was being truthful I'm what you describe as a 1 1/2 plane but it works better and certainly isn't as much of a toil on the nearly 50 year old body
