Anybody played here, looking for a Sat morning course for about 8 of us... most membership places won't allow us an early booking....

We've played Silvermere, how would this place compare?

I haven't - but I am playing at Silvermere tomorrow, is it any good?

Silver mere is ok but at this time of year is a boggy mess, I'd be surprised if it's not spongy on the greens given the recent weather, it's also always really busy with very slow rounds... That's from experience and I've played it quite a few times now, not just word of mouth, great pro shop though,

Regarding surrey national, it's a lovely course and good test, very hilly as well so it can take its toll.

I'd rate Surrey National as a better course for a group than Silvermere, though it has been quite a while since i've played either.

SN is almost set up for Society type golf. Silvermere seems to have several disparate businesses. Silvermere does get boggy in places, but has a few memorable holes - especially 17 and 18!

Pine Ridge, near Camberley heath is worth looking at, although I suspect this and the two you are looking at will get very busy at a weekend and you could end up with a 5 hour round if you are unlucky

Surrey National is playing very well at the moment, according to the reports from the agm recently. I play at Westerham, and SN would be the only other one in the group I'd play regularly.

Enjoy!

Thanks, we enjoyed Silvermere but thought the greens could have been better. Our home course is quite open and wind swept, so all the tree lined fairways were great. Really beautiful.

The other consideration now is Bletchingley (http://www.bletchingleygolf.co.uk/ ), our little society will have 3 majors this season, this is the spring one, all on away courses. So can be a struggle to find somewhere decent that lets you on a Saturday for a reasonable price. We wanted to get to Hayling but they coud only get us in on a weekday.

Thanks for all the feedback.... will report back if I win :)

I prefer Bletchingly to Surrey National, as I think it's a more interesting course. Possibly slightly easier than SN, but both are good tracks, especially if you can play on a Saturday.

Our society had played bletchingly twice in recent years, 2012 is was in awesome condition with lightening greens, 2013 it was terrible, greens were bald mud next to no grass. Many vowed they would never go back.

We played in a men's match 1st September 2013, and it was in good nick.
