Reading where everyone comes from it seems there is a proliferation of guys north of the border who seem to be pretty much sorting themselves out regarding meets and playing together.

Is there anyone around the Surrey/Berkshire area up for a game somewhere (I've already spoken to HTL about this and he is up for it). Any suggestions on venue and dates etc.

BTW This is not exclusive to forum members in the local vicinity. Anyone is welcome just thinking abut logisitics etc especially with the GM weekend to factor in (cost, loss of brownie points with wives/girlfriends etc).

I'd fit it in with a visit to the family, dependent on date of course.

Worplesdon, Tandridge, Hindhead? Good society package at West Surrey, one of my favourites.

What about Liam's course....Puttenham?

Anywhere but the Oxfordshire

ditto plus time of day. I worked for some years at Dorking and that was at least an hour's driving in rush hour. A venue in the west/north west of Surrey could take 1.5 hours or more leaving me in not the best frame of mind to take your money :p :p

Very interested HJS but the problem with anything south of London for me is that it involves coming through south london and Croydon- possibly the worst bit of road ive ever driven on and I promised myself about 10 years ago I would never do it again. It's that or round the M25. In a Landcruiser that does 20 to the gallon on a good day it's pricey and time consuming.

Quicker and cheaper for me to get to the midlands than it is to play south of the smoke.

Apologies

I am in Watford so Herts is good for me. Only thing is we seem to have jacked a Surrey golf thread.

For the Surrey boys, Silvermere is good for me too, as it is cheap and easy to get to (BillyG - buy a diesel). Haven't played it for about 15 years, but I remember it has some nice holes through the trees (and some dull ones in a field), finishing accross the lake where my dad watched someone put 12 brand new balls straight in, one after another.

It still depends on time and date though. My preference would be a Friday afternoon, but we may need to wait for more light.

With apologies to HJS - yes, this sounds more viable

Mog- diesel version was literally twice the price for any given year. On the milage I do I can run the petrol on the diff. for about 6 years(at time of purchase).Diesel version only does about 20% more to the gallon. Didn't make sense then and with rising diesel prices doesn't make sense now. Anyway the money isn't available and if anything Ken hates the diesel version even more.

I get more poke(if less grunt) with the petrol and a smoother ride with less clatter and vibration from the bit in front . Would rather crash it into city hall than let Ken Livngstone tell me what I can and cannot drive.

As far as hybrids there's a three year morotorium on rises then that's it- they get whacked like the rest of us. How gutted would you feel having sunk a huge wedge into a Prius or a Lexus Rx400H?

Up til yesterday I hadn't realise he was going to hit pre 2001 cars with this new tax. Damn. My old 3 litre diesel merc will be hit as well.
