So since joining my club, I have entered 3 comps, 2 of which were Medals. I have had 2 increases in my h/cap. Lately I have seen my practice paying off on the course (except for a bad 109 i shot last sunday!!), so hoping for a cut before the final club medal!!
Im not asking for much, even a slight cut (although would prefer a nice chunky one!!) will do, but im hoping to shoot low 90s!
Got a lesson on friday, only 30mins with the pro, but just want to iron out a few things with the swing.
Thats all really, just thought id share my thoughts on a boring Tuesday evening!!

I've always found that going out wanting a cut is the recipe for disaster. It starts to dominate your thoughts and thinking about what you need to do to get inside the buffer. Go out, treat it like a normal round and do the sums at the end.

just keep playing, the first few are always nerve racking and you put alot of pressure on yourself to do well which ends up wrecking your game.. Once you hit your stride you start getting cut.

I started with a few 0.1 increases then lost a few shots.

Got to agree with Homer on this one - don't look for a cut. Just relax and play, you will be more likely to put together a decent round.

Also I don't tally up till the end if I can help it as I don't want to heap additional pressure on if I have a decent score going.

Just look for a landing target you believe you can make comfortably and from where you'd be happy to play the shot following the one you're about to hit, then try and play to it. Don't go for the glory shot.

If you've got 27 shots to play with then this method should see you right.

When I started many moons ago an old timer asked me what club in my bag to I hit the best... 7 iron was my reply, he said use that off every tee and for anything that required any thing more stick with the 7... His argument was even on par 5's I'd reach in near enough 3 or 4 shots and could afford to 3 putt in the short term as I had plenty of shots to play with... I saw his point so on my next round on the tee I took out my driver and smashed a drive onto the fairway... Granted it was the 18th but I knew better!

I suppose what I'm trying to say is listen to advice as most people learn the hard way but always play the club your happiest with no matter which approach you take it will cone down as long as you listen to your pro and put the practice in.... Good luck

I agree with sweatysock that i never tally up until the end! I can understand wat the old timer said about the 7 iron but u need to start being more confident with other clubs or else ull restrict urself. Eventually with practice ur handicap will fall! Good luck!
