Recently changed from cack-handed to a conventional grip, and had two rounds of getting my head round it.
It'd been going fairly well, driving range at least once a week to keep it all moving. Only worked on grip and swing rythmn so far so early stages.
Had exams at work and my good lady is due this Friday, so for one reason or another never touched a club all week....
Went out and played 18 at my mates course on Sat, driving and putting ok, but lost ANY feeling at all on my irons-horrific-carded 97.
Played my own course yesterday, thought the 18 on Sat would've helped! EVEN WORSE
109! Again driving not too bad at all (roughly 10/13 drives good, and mostly 1 or two putting) but nothing from the irons????? From 3 all the way throught to SW - Nothing!
I was thinking of buying the training grip and a power band, mainly so i have somethin i know is 100% correct, that i can use throughout the week.
The ground is wet, which i know doesn't help, but i'm convinced it's all down to the grip???
Nothing other than a good old moan really!!!! :D

Stick with it Mikey. It takes time for big changes like this to start working. And now winter is here you've got the chance to work on it for a few months until spring when hopefully it will have settled.

Its hard mate it really is, I went through it early in the year.

DO NOT beat your self up about scores, its just like learning to play again. My advice would be to just hit balls. Dont worry about scoring.

Ask anyone on here, doesn't matter how long you have been playing I bet everyone has days when the irons wont produce. Its just how it is.

I went to the range this morning and couldn'y get my irons tweeked, so I went for 9 holes just to hit balls, it ended up coming because I wasn't scoring or putting any pressure on.

I played on Friday and my drives and putting was working well, couldn't hit my irons at all - either fat or getting under the ball too much and the occasional sh**k.
As the saying goes 'Sh1t happens'. Back out this week hopefully where everything will work better!

Keep at it. It will come trust me. As someone who has had a horrendous season until the monthly stableford win out of the blue last month I know how frustrating it can be to hit good range shots and then struggle to break 100.

My advice would be to keep working at it down the range (ideally with professional help) and keep playing down to a few social games where scores don't matter. In these conditions (wind mud and rain) it is hard enough to score even without a total swing remould. Get the swing honed over the winter, focus on your short game to get use to hitting shots with the new grip and you will be firing come next season

With the ground as wet as it is at the moment you have got to pick the ball up so cleanly it's untrue.
Slightly too heavy (which you may get away with on firmer ground) and you hit a 7 iron 110 yards if you're lucky. Get a little bit worried about fatting it and you blade one into the bushes on the right.

Don't worry too much.
It will come back.
