Evening all,

I am sure I have seen something on here about supplementary scores before so sorry if this is a duplicate.

When putting in a card for the handicap committee to look at can it be in conjunction with any other competition? say if there was a 4bbb could i play in that and do another card with just my own medal scores on?

I have a feeling the answer is going to be no but would be nice if anybody could confirm it.

cheers

If you sign the supplementary book before hand and do your own seperate card stableford points then that might be a way

I think you can hand a card in if you want, I set out on a round to do this very thing and quickly stopped playing for my own score.

I've found that playing partners might not be too impressed as your strategy when playing for a supplementary score may differ from a team format, and therefore your team's chances may be affected.

I did request a supplementary in a 4 ball better ball, but like I said I effectively stopped playing my own card and took the 0.1 as I wasn't contributing to the team format as much as I could've (tentative putts when others are safe and I needed to go for it etc.).

As to whether our pro was correct to allow me to declare I was playing a supplementary whilst participating in a team format competition, I don't know. Reflecting on it now I imagine it's unlikely my card should have counted.

If you are playing your own ball off tees on a measured course I don't see why it wouldn't be processed as a qualifying score.

The problem is 4bbb is probably Matchplay.
If you're putting a Supplementary in you need to hole out on every hole or NR a hole and hope the rest make up for it.
On a par 3, for example, one of your Opponents gets a hole in one. The rest of you try and follow but miss. The hole is won but you still have to putt out for your card.
Also some penalties are different from Matchplay to Stroke play so you can't effectively combine the 2 formats.

I don't think you could as you would have to putt out every hole even though you may be totally out of that hole. Not sure how your playing partners might feel however.

I wouldn't do it even if it was allowed as you may be holding up the game.
