Hi.
I am a full member at Thetford but I am also a points member at Thorpeness.
In order to play in competitions at Thorpeness you have to put in 3 supplementary cards. So, before each of the rounds I told the Golf Shop what my intentions were and was told 'that's fine' for men there is nothing to sign pre-round just put the card in afterwards. For ladies, sign the ladies book and put the card in separate box. So, I then played with my wife, stableford, marked each other's card, signed them then put them in the appropriate box.

Eventually mine appeared on the system and so did my wife's.

We then played 2 further rounds before Xmas, my wife's were accepted and put on the system whilst no sign of mine.

Eventually, 2 days ago, I had an answer to why mine were not on the system - they had been put in the 'wrong pile' but had now been found.

I was then told - 'we can't accept a relative signing a card' - they had processed the first one and all 3 of my wife's. We need the full score not just the stableford score.

I checked the Congu rules - they were wrong on both counts so I went back to them.

'We have a local rule in place' - stated where? The golf shop certainly weren't aware.

They are now discussing it in Committee to see if they can accept the 2 cards.

My question is:
I complied with the Congu rules (21/1) can these be over-ruled by a local club rule?

16.2 Each card must be marked and signed by a responsible person acceptable to the Handicap
Committee

As the committee seemingly had not published any rule about who is or is not acceptable, they should accept the cards.

Do you hold a handicap at Thetford? If so, shouldn't you use that one whichever club you play at and your scores from Thropeness get reported back to Thetford?

that's what i was thinking, why would you need to do supplementary cards if you already had a current handicap??

Maybe they need him to have a competition handicap and that means having played at least 3 qualifiers in the year. I think that you can still have a current handicap but not necessarily a competition one.

yes thats fair enough, Ive heard of that before for clubs only allowing new members to win a comp once they have played 3 qualifiers.

But that's not what the OP says.

I'm with Patrick on this - the 3 supplemental cards don't in themselves make a lot of sense as he could have a competition handicap already based on his play at the other club.

All the club's I've been involved with do require members to be 'active' to compete in their Trophy events (defined as having played in 3 club events in the previous 12 months) but this has nothing to do with handicapping.

A requirement of or supplemental cards seems somewhat bizarre

Can only agree Duncan & add that we require a Major Trophy Winner to have played 3 Q-Comps in the last 12 months either Home or Away... I know some Clubs require 5

I have a competition handicap which is 20.2c.
Our Club requires the above as you can get a 'c' h/cap by simply submitting 3 cards to establish a new or to renew a H/cap.
Don't know why they stipulate 'Supplementaries' as being the only method of getting the 3 Q-Comps in.... ordinary 'Q' Club Comps should do for that.
