Superb day at Wentworth

I went to my first ever live event today, and it was of course the PGA championship at Wentworth. I had always been told how good an experience it was and how you can not believe how good the tour pros are until you have seen them and this is right on the money. I followed Paul Casey for the majority of the day (tee to green he was superb, his putter was stone cold though until 18)and I was in awe of him the whole way round. His iron play is majestic, but the thing that got me most was his ability to just forget about the crowd. Him and his caddy just held normal conversations throughout the day laughing and joking not worrying about their surroundings at all. I could say so much more about Casey and the day itself but there is no need as if you have been before you will know what I am on about in terms of what you can gain from it and if you haven't it is impossible to understand without having experienced the pros first hand for yourself, so basically if you are one of these never to have been to a tournamnet make sure you go. It is absolutely superb.

The PGA is rightly the flagship event on the European tour but IMHO The Open is different gravy.

Anyone who has been to both will agree I think, there is just an atmosphere that I cant describe about the whole thing.

Going back to Wentworth,it is a bit of a hobby horse for me but these guys are GOOD!! Better than good!!

Most would say I am a good golfer off 5,but I know that someone off 3 is twice the golfer I am and scratch twice as good as that. I am so lucky to know a few pros well, including two who have played in Tour events and one who won the Southern Region Champs recently and they are miles better than scratch but couldnt make a bean on Tour.

You can keep Premiership footballers or even Internationals, only 125 of these guys keep their card! Gods, all Gods.

Sad about our chap loosing in the sudden death playoff but the winner couldn't be a nicer guy.

Jimenez is my favourite current tour play. Plays a laid back game, looks like he's having fun, is polite and courteous and strikes me as a guy who knows lifes for living.

He's been knocking at the door of a big one for a long time.

It makes me proud to be British when I watch well presented game with good camera work, an excellent venue and commentators. We do this so much better than the Americans on a number of levels.

Only fly in the ointment was having the jug eared pr@t cut Jimanez' moment of celebration short with his ungainly and inapropriate mike wielding. I don't care if the super 7 rugby wants to take over you goal hanging waster, let Jimanez have his moment with the crowd and let us enjoy it with him.

I feel a letter to the BBC coming on.

Only been to 2 live events . Will make more in the future. Really enjoyrd them. Was at the Saturday play at the Open at Troon...it was really busy, a bit too busy to really enjoy.

I have went to the Scottish Open at Loch Lomond on the friday and enjoyed it much more. You dont have as many big names at it but still some world class players. You can get really close to the action and there is a great par 5 you can watch them drive at from behind. They send the balls miles.......

Was it just me or was Gary Lineker's presenation at the BMW cringe worthy? I felt myself going red with anger the way he preseneted Jimenenez and the interview with Mr Lineker's Spanish twang was cack, he should stick to small talk on MOTD if you ask me. Get a letter in or petition as he was out of his depth and shouldn't get away with it again, can you imagine him doing the Open??

I must admit even thoguh I was following Casey who was obviously very popular the crowd numbers were quite easy to deal with. I didn't miss any action at all. Although the numbers following karlson and Jiminez did seem quite a bit larger. And I did hear someone comment that they had enjoyed their day out yesterday far more than going to a different tournamnet because it was not to busy to enjoy, I'm not sure where they were talking about (quite possibly the open) but it sounded like people were having to run in order to get to a place where they can see the green. That would definitely make it to stressful to enjoy; run or miss out.

How many viewers were dreading a repeat of Friday, when some gent invited Bruce Forsythe into the lounge and we were subjected of his contribution to the Al Fayed  "BONANZA" and the amount of money he obtained for his efforts. Forsythe is well over the hill and all he seeks is to keep his name in front of the public. Alongside Gary Lineker he should be kicked into the long grass.

I went to Wentworth on Thursday and Saturday and on both days had a fantastic time. The atmosphere is special compared to other tour events, although I agree with Nico that an Open is something else on top of that (went to Royal St. Georges a few years back).
I have also been to The Belfry on a Saturday for the Ryder Cup and that had an atmosphere that surpassed the lot. Really was electric.
I just love watching European Tour events live. I would recommend it to anyone.
