Looking at the forum this morning, and someone posted a link the the EAGT website.

I'd been on there before and noticed that they play at a lot of very nice courses, but set their prices accordingly. I'd toyed with the idea of entering events before but never actually committed.

I'm sure you know where this is going now....

I noticed that there were 2 Sunningdale 36 hole events. One is full and one had 2 spaces left.
I asked a couple of mates because if they wanted to it would make my decision easier, but neither wanted to go.

After thinking about it for a couple of hours I thought "what the heck" and entered.

Ever since I clicked the "confirm payment" button I've had that horrible feeling you get in your stomach when you think you've spent too much money on something you don't need.

Please tell me I won't regret it???

Ha, buyers remorse....

you won't regret it, unless you get really terrible weather........

still one slot available - fortunately I can't make that date or I would have joined you!

They're qualifiers as well. Looking at previous results CSS has been 73 both courses every time the last 2 years except 71 once and 74 once, against a par of 70 for both courses. Not sure what the SSS is.

I'll now be having dreams of it being the place where I finally get to Cat1, that would be nice! You have to have dreams :)

Something you will never forget, its only money and we are only here once. Good on you

Enjoy the day its a fabulous and friendly place. That's actually pretty good value if it includes the carvery which I believe to be excellent. The Berkshire do a similar thing. You'd be feeling sick if you paid out 360 quid for one round on the West Course at Wentworth!! No food either!! :o Now thats a rip off...

You will not regret it! 2 Great courses and a superb lunch!

The view from the 10th on the Old is the best golfing view in Surrey imo Closely followed by the vista from the around 5/6/9 on New, 2nd of Wentworth East and 7th of Hankley! Colt's hand in all of those!

We have a clear winner ;)

Agree with the view from the 10th on the Old, just stunning - take a camera with you!

The Pro at my club came from Sunningdale, his view is that the New is 3-4 shots harder. You need to keep on the short & prepared, the heather is penal in places.

Seems a reasonable price for both courses, food and the comp and prizes. I love the place and the food is excellent. Not quite a match for the Berkshire but not far off it. Good weather will help but I've played it in the wet too and still enjoyed it. Drains really well

You won't regret it. 36 at Sunningdale plus lunch is a legendary experience.

Both of these. Don't forget the sausage roll at the turn, even more legendary than the carver, and TXL's pro is right, the New is the tougher test. Enjoy.

I personally think the tour is pricey. The tour Was at Woodhall Spa yesterday doing the same deal you are organising at they paid £209 for the privilege.

Colt added the current 10th,11th and 12th holes at Hankley, by removing the original 10th,17th and 18th. He also lengthened some of the holes. This was done in the 1930's.

The course dates back to the 1890's when it was a nine hole course. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was one of its founding members. James Braid added a further nine holes in the 1920's, and it then had 6 par threes including the 17th and 18th.

I believe the 7th is one of the original 18 holes, and not a Colt hole.

You wont regret it

I looked at this event too a while ago but I now have a voucher to play the New course so I didn't enter.

Having walked both courses I think you will enjoy playing them immensely they look superb.

Yes. I believe you are correct. I had meant to state - 'but maybe only his eye' on that one. My excuse is that he was commissioned to 'balance the Par 3s' and it just has the stamp of a Colt Par 3 - more so than the 11th to me! I'm almost certain he would have done something to it though as he did tinker a bit - even just to bunkers or slopes!

I prefer his slightly elevated/concert stage style ones to his level/downhill ones - with 1 exception.

whoops - it appears that the event is now full Gary:) I was meaning to enter this so glad you reminded me. If you fancy coming down the day before let me know as there is a charity event at Bearwood I was thinking of entering

I will know one person there then :)

Bearwood is very tempting, but it's the bank holiday and my day is spoken for. Thanks for the offer though
