Obviously a number of us have recently played the courses, so i'm intrigued as to which you all felt was better?

I thought the New was a better golf course in that it was more of a test. I thought the old was more charming and playable. Given the choice, if I had to play one tomorrow, I'd go 'old'. Then again, tomorrow, I would probably change my mind.

i thought the Old was in another league. I've played better (IMO) in england than the new, but not the old.

I said the New, but it's touch and go between the two. I just thought that the par 3's on the Old let it down a bit.

New for me. Better par threes, though the finish on the Old is better than the New. New is definitely tougher, as the Old has some short par 4's. There is a different feel to each course, which makes it the best place to play 36 holes in England.

I voted the Old just because I enjoyed it a bit more on the day. Agree the par 3s on the New are better and that it's probably a tougher test but the Old was more fun. (Plus I played better which might just be influencing my thinking a tad!)

I reckon the company was the deciding factor :D

I thought the old was a good step above the New.
For me I'd say its the best course I've played and that includes Dornoch, Birkdale and TOC.
I thought it was amazing and I didn't play particularly well, probably for the best
otherwise I may of chained myself to that big tree behind the 18th and refused to leave!

I voted old although I played the new a lot better only losing 1 ball!

As has been said, the old has all the original natural charm but you need to play it a few times, if you can afford to, to understand the blind drives and get to know where you don't want to be, not so much where you ideally think you should be.

The new had more variations and better par 3's and seemed to be more specifically set up to make you think as it was tighter whereas the old was more playable, if you got off the tee ok, imo.

The greens were far better in the afternoon on the new, I'm not sure if there that different all the time though.

For me if i would pick the old - I didn't play my best but I didn't stop smiling all day long - I still smile now thinking back. The new even though I played a little better had better greens and some tougher holes especially the par 3's but it just missed a little bit of that smiling factor.

I prefer Swinley to the New but all three are so close for me.

Old for me beats the New.

However.

Old Vs Swinley is another matter.....................

I really cant make my mind up on that as both are incredible and both have very good holes.

I may need another go on both to decide :D
