Hello all

Does anyone else here play on a Sunday afternoon very much? Reason for asking is that twice over the last few weeks I've been out on a Sunday after lunch (two different courses) and both times it was millionaires golf.

I was supposed to be entering the medal today but my mate let me down, spoke to the pro but there was no-one else I could go out with so in the end I went out by myself for a practice. Think I saw about 5 people out there, didn't speak to another soul for the entire round until I caught up with a very slow pair on the 16th and they let me through.

Just struggling to understand why it's such an unpopular time? A lot of the guys I know from our course play Sunday mornings but due to other commitments (kids football) that's a no-go for me. I'm not really complaining, having the course to yourself is fantastic, I'm just somewhat confused. Surely for a lot of people, there are two days per weeks when you can play, why limit it to only the mornings?

sunday dinner and football

I prefer a Sunday afternoon as its always quiet, unrushed golf at its finest (even a bit of light drizzle is permitted)

Always play sunday afternoon with a couple of mates. As o/p has found, it's almost always empty. Even today on the most perfect late summer afternoon imaginable.

As we were wandering up the sixth in solitute today you can see the four balls queued up on the 15th...

What makes it even more of a no brainer is that the course we play is particularly good to play late - a stiff breeze kicks up on a lot of days and generally dies off within a couple of hours of sunset.

Only thing is, the pricing policy makes no attempt to encourage people to play then - even though hardly anyone goes out on sunday afternoon it's still max price. hey ho...

Minor downside is greens getting a bit grassy towards the end and are a little spiked up.

Not being a member anywhere, myself and a mate play some Sundays and we have to tee off after 12 noon at which time the course is always quiet.

It's brilliant no one pusing you and no one holding you up, we can play our games, chew the fat and on one hole which is a drivable 250yd carry we break out the rubbish beaten up balls and try to drive the green with no penalty when we take the ball swimming, then we play the sensible lay up shot.

Sunday afternoons, a nice quiet relaxing round of golf

Our members comps are always played on a Sunday, so the course is quite busy usually but a Saturday can be very quiet if there is nothing on.

Our's is very busy on Sunday afternoon as the club has a SAGS (Sunday Afternoon Golf Society) which tee's of at 1pm, and they all play in 4-balls.

At ours the usual points comps and medals usually run across both days, sat+sun - it seems that everyone who wants to enter has already done so by noon on Sunday. No idea about the comps at the other club I experienced this at recently (Hadden Hill in Didcot), but that was if anything even quieter than my experience today.

Seems from what a couple of you are saying, it's not just Oxfordshire that is like this, I just can't get why? Surely not every golfer is a Man U or Chelsea fan desperate to run back to shiny Sky TV?

For years I've been trying to keep this fact quiet so I have the course to myself and now you go and tell the world! If it gets busy now I know who to blame!
