My home course is being taken over on 22nd September for a competition that I can't enter, so I've been looking for an open to play in.

There's a 36 hole better ball (bogey am - stableford pm) at Burghley Park near Stamford, but since it's only a couple of weeks away they can only take more entries if it fills a tee time ie. 4 players.

Would anyone else be interested in playing?

My main memories of the place are getting hammered in a 4BBB matchplay tie, but from what I remember it's a very pleasant parkland course in good condition.

It's £28 each for the 2 rounds plus bacon roll and coffee on arrival and a soup and sandwiches lunch between rounds.

I was going to put my name forward but just had an email reminding me that I have to go to lunch for my mum's birthday. Pity as I went to school in Stamford and have been to Burghley Park a few times but never played it.

One word of warning, check that the whole course is open before handing over any money. It is the horse trials this weekend and the course is used for it. A year or so ago, I think that the damage caused by that shut a number of holes for an extended period.

I may have got away with 18 holes in the morning but suspect that disappearing for 9 plus hours for 36 holes may be pushing it slightly.
