This weekend we had our first comp under summer rules so no more pick and place.
I was told it was April the 1st every year.

My question is why?
Our course was still very wet in places and a few bunkers were gur due to being flooded.

It was a 36 hole event so when I went back in and complained I was told that it was going to go back to winter rules but the first group had gone off the first.

This to me is just madness surely someone just has to have a look the day before or prior to play.

Does your course instantly go to summer rules on April 1st.

Just like Woburn last week wet courses suck the life out of the game for me and clubs and organisers imo need to do more to make this game more enjoyable.
And don't get me started on crowned holes:rant:

Our first qualifier was Saturday and it was a p***take bunkers flat and washed out due to rain on Friday night our way.Mud balls galore. If you hit a high ball forget it every other ball was plugged. You were chipping out of muddy footprints next to the green.and I could go on.....

Interestingly the 2012-15 CONGU manual specified the period as 1st October to 30th April. The new manual merely states that the period will be decided by the Union.

I think the changes document just said the period will stay the same but can be extended with county authority ?

Spoke with Liverbirdie about this yesterday. Next week is the start of our qualifiers I believe.

I asked would they have the qualifier if the course was still so soft. He said it would be decided upon on the day which is the best course of action for all.

My home course is currently closed thanks to several days of heavy rain as per usual the last few months. Plus it's bitterly cold as well...

We're supposed to be off Winter Rules from 30th March but I suspect we'll still be on until the end of April.
Find out for sure tomorrow.

That's a 7 month 'off-season'. It does seem crazy to only have 5 months of proper golf. It seems the weather may have played it's part in the demise of some clubs. I think my old club was 6 months on and 6 months off.

The club can remove preffered lies earlier or introduce them later if they wish if the course is in good nick - more for worst case scenario

Last couple of years have produced some very poor patches of weather. We were looking to remove ours on the 1st but that recent deluge meant we have kept them on a little longer
