Hi all, I have a 3 club & putter comp on Friday but the clubs must be used in rotation i.e. if I take driver, 7i & SW they must be used in that order regardless of ball position so I may end up using a driver to get out of sand & a SW to tee off on a par 5. What would you all suggest carrying?

I would suggest you don't play, totally pointless game playing with three clubs.

Good luck whatever you decide but 3 club competitions are not for me.

I would take 7,8,9 and just knock it round with those three.

You should be able to extricate yourself from any situation with each of those clubs rather than leaving yourself with a driver from 50 yards or in a bunker.

I've played in them before and you choose 3 clubs but arent restricted in when you play them, as Bob says thats ridiculous. It's actually good for creative play when you have a 3 iron (good for putting) 7 iron and wedge.
I forsee issues with rotating and compulsary club selection.

Well it's 9 holes so won't be a 5hr round & it's called "fun"
SHW thanks for the idea, I may well take those 3.

I'd take either a hybrid or 3W as it will be useful of the tee and can be used around the green if stuck. Then probably 7i and PW.

Horrible the fact you have to rotate the clubs. Does it reset between holes? If it doesn't reset then I'd probably consider the irons only option.

Can I ask how they plan on enforcing this?

Probably the same as all other golf, by trusting people not to cheat

Are you lot taking the p155 - a 3 club game is for FUN - and it may even be mixed (shock - ladies on the course). I am pretty sure I started golf for fun and enjoyment reather than for a career - and guess what it is fun (well most of the time)

You really do take this game to serious sometimes :-(

Take a 5,6,7 and enjoy it - I am sure you will in the end it's a fun format and generally the people playin in the fun stuff know that a duffed shot is not the end of the world.

Quite true but that for me is just a nonsense of a rule!!

Long par 5 (500yards +), driver off the tee followed by a 7 iron, followed by an SW. If you hit like Dustin Johnson, fine. No doubt you'd still be short an have to take a driver as your next club :D

Thats not golf!! Thats just hitting your chosen clubs in sequence!

Thanks for the suggestion Ken & you're right, it is supposed to be a bit of FUN on a Friday evening followed by much P taking in the bar about the muppet (probably me) trying to chip over a bunker with a hybrid etc.
I am erring towards taking all irons, maybe 5/7/9 will give a chance of having some sort of shot whatever the situation.
