Hi all

I noticed a few of my spikes were missing grips so ordered some replacements.

I came to take the old ones off last night and the actual spikes themselves have perished (within 18 months) to the point that the removal tool obliterated the base of the spike (I hope I'm explaining myself well enough).

Any bright ideas on removal of the spikes if I cant get the tool to grip?

Assuming I've not misunderstood your query I have used a spike ripper to remove old spikes that the usual tool cannot remove. I think I picked one up from Direct Golf or similar.

That spike ripper looks like an aggressive tool!

I did try pliers last night, but no luck.

I like the sound of using a hammer

Try soaking the shoe sole in warm water first. That will help to expand and soften the thread joints. Then use pliers or something similar to get some movement going. Once you get a slight movement you will be okay. I had the same issue a while ago with my sons shoes and this did the trick. The tools mentioned by other posters will all work but warm water to expand the joints will help all of these tools work better.

Soak them in warm water for a while.

This'll loosen any grime potentially locking them up.

If they still wont loosen after that. Use a set of bull nose pliers and give them a twist.

No idea how to remove them, but I make a point of removing them every few times when I clean my shoes so that I can clean the dirt from the thread. It's a good preventative measure.

Soak in warm water, not hot or boiling!

Ease them out with plyers, never failed and never broken anything (apart from the old one which I will throw away anyway)
