Right all....

Captains day is this weekend and as its an open draw i could be out with anyone...This doesnt really bother me as im the outgoing type anyway and quitely confident in my game also....Id chat with anyone.....

So i have decided to practice 2 hours tomorrow night 2 hours on thursday night and maybe 3 or 4 hours on saturday...Before the kickoff on sunday.....

Now as i practice every week and try to at least get 4 hours worth in over the course of the week im making the extra effort this week in the hope of at least qualifying for the 9 holes on sunday evening...The competition is played over 27 holes and the top 27 players and ties go through to the second round.....

So how would you structure my practice for the coming week....

My strengths are 3-4 ft putts and lag putts from distance....Where my putting struggles is the 10-20 ft mark with distance control more than direction being the issue......

My wedge play is decent for my handicap from 80 mtrs in....
Short game is decent enough too......

But....There's always a catch isn't there?

At the moment dispersion with the driver is an issue.....

Last weekend even though i was in the buffer poor drives with lost balls off of 2 par 4's cost me two 7's.....But on the flipside two more decent drives on par 5's had me away with 2 birdies so i suppose its hit and miss really with the big stick.
A poor second shot with a 6 iron into a lake and the subsequent reload plonked into a precarious lie in a greenside bunker saw me take an 8 on another par 4....

I wouldnt do a great deal of practice. And if you do, do some putting and short game drills. I seem to fall into the trap of expecting to shoot a good score if I do alot of practice before a comp. Afterall, what could go wrong, as I have prepared?

Perhaps play a few holes instead?

Practice the fixes to your weaknesses, but don't neglect your strengths. So try drills to get you 10ft putts better - and nobody expect to hole all of them - Pros only average 50% from 7'10" (so are you really weak in that area?).

And unless you are sorting out your Driving, you are only grooving your faults. Though you may end up with a 'go-to' swing that you can actually rely on - faults an all - for a while.

And playing a few holes does actually have benefits too,

Good Luck

I think practice is better if done on a regular basis with aims in mind for each session BUT I am not a fan of 'special' practice as I find it self defeating and often play poorly after trying to practice for a specific round.

I would sell the driver and just practice what you are going to do on the day..............play.
Have 9 holes each night and take your time. Hit a few extra tee shots/second shots, chips, pitches etc just so you are not 'course rusty'.
There's a time and a place for the range but you cant beat time spent on the course practicing what you are going to do on the day.
