Hi.

Did a daft thing today. On a par 3 hole the tee area has white, yellow and red tees in same area. The competition was off the yellow tees. Silly me hit off from the red tee. Then it was pointed out having just done it , and whilst I was still on the teeing area.
So I hit off the yellows. This shot went on the green and I played out the hole with this ball.
Did. I incur a penalty?
We didn’t know the answer.
Can someone enlighten us please how I should have proceeded from the point where I realised the error.
It was a stableford individual competition.
Thanks

If you played from outside the correct teeing area ("outside" includes wrong teeing areas), you have breached Rule 6.1b and incur a penalty of two strokes. The stroke made from outside the teeing area does not count in your score. You must correct this error by playing a ball from within the correct teeing area. This must be corrected before making a stroke from the next hole's teeing area or you are DQ'd.

There is a raised area for the tees. This one “ area” has the three lots of tee markers on it.
Red,yellow and white.
I stayed within the one raised area.
If the red tees and the yellow tees and the white tees each had their own “raised area” , then I am understanding that the penalty you mention would be incurred because I would have moved from one separate area to another?
Or are you saying that the markers for each” colour” is a separate” teeing area”.?

A teeing area is a rectangle formed by the line between the markers and going backwards 2 club lengths..
Playing from outside that rectangle means a penalty.
Sometimes the areas can overlap and you get away with it.
Kn one hole a few weeks back we were playing from the Yellows and I teed up from the Whites...but the Whites were only a club and a half behind the Yellows so I was still within the yellow tee area.

Thanks. Well, I’m glad I missed the putt following the tee shot off the yellows. (We get a payout for getting a “twos”. )The tee shot from the yellows landed 6ft from the pin!
Would have been Sods Law if the putt had gone in.
Thinking maybe I’d got a two when in fact I’d got a four🙁

Teach me to concentrate!
