Street style golf shoes

Wouldn't happen at my place but I can see how some of them might contravene a "No Trainers" rule. Daft rule to be sure but looking at some of them it doesn't surprise me...

Next Saturday I'm wearing conforming footware.

Timberland boots, laces trailing, knee length black socks, white shorts. Not a good look, but I've got the stropping hump on this one. Clearly white shoes, white socks, white shorts, isn't smart enough.

Golf clubs are losing members hand over fist. I wonder why?

They're losing members because people like you don't follow the rules and then get the hump when it gets brought to your attention. A dress code is there for a reason, if it says no trainers or golf shoes etc, wear proper shoes in the clubhouse. Simple

So you don't think that thngs need to change, keep up to date?

I play quite a bit in Florida, where you can wear soft spikes in the club house. Is it really going to wear the carpet out? Or is the problem that colonel Beasley Smythe has spat out his GnT on the carpet in disgust?

haha. quality.

Why does it need to change, its called tradition. If you don't like it, go and live in florida where you can do it. If not, obey the rules and deal with it.

Who took the jam out of your donut??
If golf clubs want to attract younger members then they will have to relax dress code IMO.

I just don't see why people find it hard to wear proper shoes in the clubhouse. I'm 16 and I haven't got a problem with it, neither have my mates. If you relax the dress code, the clubhouse will start looking like the local youth club.

i do like them to be fair, but i am refaining from buying any incase i get the "there not golf shoes" comment as i don't want to spend the next hour proving to people that they are , in fact, golf shoes. So i stick with traditional shoes. nothing wrong with them to be perfectly fair.

No it won't. It just won't.

I've been playing golf for 35 years, i've seen trends come and go. The world hasn't ended yet. Crop necked shirts were a no, even when tiger was wearing them, now they are accepted everywhere. Times change.

If shoes are clean, what's the problem?

This is the killer. Some twit is going to say you can't wear them on the course, because they look a bit like trainers, but then you can't wear them in the club house either, because they are golf shoes?

Golf shoes don't look smart in the clubhouse. Yes you don't have to wear suit shoes or whatever, but golf shoes aren't appropriate imo.

I'm guessing that after today, my club will make a ruling banning them. I've only been wearing them for two years, with no one noticing, but finally it's all kicked off. Fine, but it's quite possible to treck rubbish through the club house wearing conforming footwear, whilst looking like crap. Dress codes, I love them?

I've got 2 pairs, a canvas pair for days like to-day and a leather pair if there is a chance of rain. To be fair, i,ve never been pulled at our place. If i was i would actually show them the dress code as laid down in our diary. It clearlly states "NO spiked golf shoes to be worn in the club house", no more, no less. We can all be pedants when we have to be.

Not at all, normally the younger lot know better?

The thing that makes me chuckle at these threads is the on going thought that by relaxing the dress code will cure all 'ills' of club membership... Attracting younger members is an important aim but the dress code is a minor 'issue'... We've more or less just been told that by a sixteen year old... So perhaps we'll have a little less drumbeating on this point? Unlikely I reckon...
