Searching through previous posts here on this question I came across a thread suggesting an XBMC Android TV box was the solution. I had look at these boxes on eBay and I also saw USB stick advertised purporting to 'open up' Apple TV boxes to the same end.

Has anyone bought one of these boxes or 'opened up' their Apple TV box if so any advice on which box to go for or what features of which box to look out for?

Mods will no doubt move to the right section but;

I got one after reading up on here about them. Bargain in my opinion - certainly not a 'main room' box but the library of films in true HD and box sets, new and old is superb. Have watched many older Golf Channel features and episodes and the live 3pm kick offs I have found (easily) have been 'ok'. I use it in the bedroom and the wifi is fine, although I do have the infinity broadband. BT and Sky Sport live matches are perfectly watchable also, just don't think you'll get the same quality ya get from ya Sky/Cable box.

If you have a weak speed, don't expect too much from it, particularly over wifi but many a time I've plugged it in downstairs for a movie or back to back breaking bads and had not one 'annoyance'. For me, the £67 was and is great value for money!

They seem to range in price - do you know which are good and which are bad or whether some have features / abilities that others don't have? I am getting the feeling that there are different boxes (of possibly different quality) and then someone has loaded/programmed different features/abilities onto the box . . .but I may be wrong?

i have just bought a google chromecast, It can stream whatever you are watchin in a chrome browser to your TV, I havnt tested it out yet though. but at 30 quid it's no big deal
