Played golf earlier in the week and in my group was a bloke who played golf like happy Gilmore without the run up.
Imagine stood like happy Gilmore before he runs up, well that's how he played his shots, feet together and just swung arms. When stood over the ball the the club was that closed it was almost re-opening round the back. Big slice all day long too.
Putting was the best though! One hand at bottom of grip, the other was about 6" from bottom of shaft. No rhythm to it just punchy stabs at it.

Wanted to get some pictures but felt a little uncomfortable asking. He was quiet and strange too which didn't help. :D

Anyone else seen any horror swings?
:o

Playing Sunday we let a couple of guys through on the short par 3 6th and we'd chiefly let them through because they'd caught us up (we were a three ball), none of us had hit the green, so we were a-huntin' and they'd played a couple of long pitch shots at the 4th both to within 3 feet of the flag, so we thought they were pretty good.

Anyway, the first guy plays, ok shot, found the edge of the green, nothing amazing (it's only 132 yards but anything more than 3/4 of a wedge for me and it's over the back), when the second guy walks up to the tee, puts his ball in the ground and takes his address.

Now, you know how some people address the ball by putting their left foot and the clubhead in place first, with the their right foot behind the left and then bring their right foot into place, well that's what I thought he was doing. Except he left his right foot where it was a good foot or more behind the left, with almost no distance between them, side to side, if you follow me, he then made half a turn, almost flat, with no wrist involvement at all and no word of a lie, hits the HIGHEST shot I've ever seen. Now I'm a high-ball hitter, seriously high, I don't know anyone who hits the ball higher than me. I do now, I've no idea what club he hit, must have been some kind of wedge obviously but 52, 56, 60, no idea but how he would have got both the height and the distance on it with such a swing. One thing he was clearly trying to do was hit a draw, which he did, I think he hit it to about 15 feet in the end but I've certainly never seen anything like that before.

May be he's working on some kind of drill?

It certainly seemed a deliberate attempt to hit a right to left shot, I just can't fathom how such a short, flat swing generates such a high but long, ball flight.

Would have been nice to see him hit a driver.

Yeah, never got the opportunity sadly, I'm not even sure how he'd stay on his feet if he hit a full shot.

There was a guy years ago at Wimbledon Common ad he took it back almost around the back of his knees and then jerked it up. Coming down it was straight down and through. How he ever got to the same poistion consistently is a mystery but he was off 9.

Before it went belly up, the Golf Channel were doing a documentary series with Barkley and trying to get him to improve and that swing is after some tuition. You should try and find the original swing

I'll be the first to admit my swing is not the best in the world. But compared to some I see on the course, it puts Ernie's to shame. I can't believe the swings some poeple have. And they're still able to make contact and send it 250 down the middle. Eveything moves so far its amazing they can actually stand up let alone hit the ball.

Ï quite often see swings that make you wonder how they keep the ball on the golf course...

I think one will see that older swings or older players will have a more natural (stranger) swing then the current generation.

I think it was Peter Kostis who said years ago players had bad swings that produced great results, now players have good swings that produce bad results.

Say's a lot coming from Casey's coach:-)

I know a fella who was once a crickiter - swing is the strangest thing you have ever seen (straight up and round then straight down with a rounded bit)- but he plays of 18 pretty much every round!!!!
