I know there are a few on here who have played Strandhill (in Co. Sligo) so you may be interested to hear that the club is to embark on a redevelopment. It is only a "minimalist intervention" which will include reordering the course, some rebunkering, one brand new par 3 and extending the 4th into a par 5. More information on their site here.

It seems a shame to change the 4th, while it was a little strange, it was good fun. But good luck to them; I just hope they don't hike their green fee up.

What do you think?

I was looking to play that next year as they do a pass which includes Rosses Point and Enniscrone for 120 Euro, great value for 3 rounds. Ive not heard much of Strandhill, how would you rate it, we played Rosses Point, Narin & Portnoo and Donegal using the North West Links Pass, fantastic value for money

You will really enjoy it, €120 for those three courses is great value. If you have time try and get out to Carne as well.

Strandhill is the weakest of the courses mentioned, in part because the others are so good. None the less it is still good fun and I would recommend playing it if in the area. Some of the par 4s are a little repetitive and bland but the better holes make up for that notably 4,5,13,14 and 15. Last time I played it 13 was near on impossible into a headwind - the drive is partially blind over some dunes and the second is into a long thin green which is surrounded by steep dunes with an entrance 10ft wide (it's a little like the 18th at St Annes Old links, only narrower).

As I say the course is good fun and is great as an extra course to play when visiting the area. I hope when they carry out all the work on the course the green fee isn't raised as the cheaper green fee almost helps lower expectations with the result that the course delivers more than you expect.

Have played there a few times and always enjoyed it until the last time which was just two weeks ago and I have to say the greens were terrible. Looked like they hadn't been cut in a week and even some "tufts" on them. Not a great way to present your course for an open.

As has been said a few great holes and I have to add the 2nd and 7th onto the list although I think the current 4th is a poor hole and I'm happy that it's one of the changes.

Due to our recent experience I probably won't be back for a while and in fact will probably save my return until the changes are all complete.

But definitely worth playing if you are in the area, just hope they remember to cut the greens the week 😉

I played it back in June and thought it was a cracking little course, a bit quirky but great fun. Also played Enniscrone on the pass, but I'm sure they mentioned the pass was only meant to be for natives but as we had pre booked all was ok. Might be worth checking.

Cheers for that ,we thought that was the same with North West Links Pass, but they said it was open to everyone, fantastic value
