As part of Tashyboys wake up routine I have a quick perusal of the news. Come across a story where British comedian Jack Whitehall has been chosen by Disney to play the first openly Major gay man.
First of all you have to applaud Disney for moving with the times, but for some that's not good enough, in fact once more people on social media are offended and disgusted that the role was given to a "straight" man. Now here's a thought. Why not just give the role to the best man, whether he is straight or gay. Something which Disney think they have done.

Plenty of gay actors have played straight characters before. If people had kicked off about that they'd have been strung up though. There is a large section of people who just wait for the next thing to get offended about.

P.S. Even though Whitehall is apparently straight, he does have a slightly camp nature about him, I can see why he was cast.

Because, and here's where it's controversial... diversity doesn't recognise talent, or capitalism apparently.
Not that I think Whitehall is talented, there are many openly gay, much more talented actors.

I'm sure they would have auditioned any gay men that applied for it, and obviously decided Whitehall was the best actor for the role. That should be it, open and shut case.

Neil Patrick Harris played one of the straightest characters in sitcom history despite being a gay man - where was the outrage about that?

It's a sign of the times I'm afraid, people offended by everything. In films you have actors.....people that act in a prescribed way to fit the writers/directors ideas.

Is it then to be the case that only real boxers/fighters can play the roles in Rocky etc, only real soldiers that can play roles in war films, only real racists or drunks or abusive fathers in films that require it.

My gut instinct is that Jack will lose the role because we'll pander to the PC bridge again, heaven forbid someone that is offended doesn't get their way.

I would imagine it's a minority that has an issue with this. To me it's a bit of a strange thing to get upset about, in movie history we have had gay men playing the part of straight men, women playing the part of men, adults playing the part of children, and humans playing the part of animals.

Perhaps most shockingly a lot of actors are not qualified for the roles they play - people without commercial licenses playing airline pilots, people who had never won major international sporting contests playing top international athletes, and even people that had never been elected to top political office playing the US president, it's an utter disgrace, and I am outraged!!!!

It’s 2018 and Disney finally cast a gay character and that’s moving with the times ? I would say they are over a decade behind the times prob even longer

Why are they any measurement behind the times? They are completely upto date if they’ve never made a film requiring a gay character.
Or are you saying they should make films with gays in to appease the offended?

This is news to me, I always thought Jack Whitehall was gay!

Shows how wrong you can be :p

To be fair to Warwick that's understandable, he runs an agency that caters exclusively for short/dwarf actors.

Quite, but I think he missed the point of shrinking well known actors to a yard tall...

And, no I am not going to use the obvious wisecrack... Occasionally met him, where I last worked, and he was friendly as you get...

Its appaling this IMO

The biggest hollywood mistake since the casting of Mrs Doubtfire, Tootsie and Pricilla Queen of the desert IMO

Sickening these times we live in!!!!!
