I have a perfectly good set of Mizuno mx25 irons, I hit them well, they are shiny, great condition, an all around nice set. I cannot however get the thought of changing them out of my head. I know it will be a mistake but how do I stop myself? I'm sure there are more than me out there with a similar affliction. :(

Just buy the bloody things.
You will spend so much time looking at them, first wanting them and then convincing yourself that you don't. Then you do, then you don't, then you do, then you don't, then you do...so you buy them.
And play like a prat with them the first 5 or 6 times out and wished you'd never spent the money. Then you get a bit better with them and start thinking "these are the best clubs I have ever owned"..
And then you start playing crap with them again and realise that shiney new clubs don't make you a better player

Why????? The clubs you have sound like they do the job perfectly well and unless you are going down the C/F road what will new clubs give you that the others won't. Just tell yourself all that money spent could be invested in lessons or if all else fails stuck down your throat in a series of drunken nights out

Sounds familiar. I have a set of Mizuno MP60's in good condition and i'm looking to change to some i15's.

The Mizuno's are excellent clubs. Read an article on the i15's and having tried them at Garforth Driving range and i've got to say i will be changing - custom fit session in Jan. I also tried the MX300's at the same time and the feel on the i15's, in my opinion was better!
This time, however, my aim, when i get these clubs, is to keep them for a long while and banish all thoughts of new clubs from there on in! ;).

In the last 2 years i have had 3sets of irons: Mizuno Comp EZ, MacGregor Mactec M685, MP60's
I bought the MP60's when i had the MacGregor's as i'd always wanted some and they were on offer at the time. Was working out nicely until i went to a BBQ and HID became aware of how much golf hardware i'd amassed :(

Save yourself a small fortune and just get yourself a 73 deg lob wedge instead :)
OR
keep the mx25 heads and swap the shafts for stiff and get some posh new grips :) :) :)

Bobmac to the rescue, great idea about changing shafts. I will price up some rifle 5.5's, think i'll leave the 73 degree lob wedge on the rack though I dont have to hit over any skyscrapers on my track.
See it isn't all rubbish on here ;)

Im in the same frame of mind Drawboy....
I use wilson staff Di7's i bought them new when they first came out iv played alot with them and they've serverd me well but im going to change them for the wilson staff Ci7's.
Iv seen the Ci9's in the flesh but i can pick up the 7's for 150€ less and i think that they are much prettier...
Ill probably still play shite! :D :D

I don't get it, really.

It's like admitting you bought the wrong clubs last time. Or is it thinking "I am a scratch golfer, just haven't found the right clubs yet!"

If you can afford to do it and want to then there's nothing wrong in it... just don't think it will be the holy grail to lowering your handicap.

I think the bottom line of Kid2's sig says it all. :) :)

Three sets of clubs in 2 years! I see now why your username is, RichE. But hey, if you can afford it, 'ave it. :D
I have the MX23's, bought about 2-3 years ago and have no intention of changing. But I'm trying out a new driver this weekend :D :D

Golfmmad.

There is an old Scottish song which goes:-
"Keep yer siller in yer pooch an tie it tae the tail o' yer sark"
For the less educated here, the translation is:-
"Keep your money in your pocket and tie it to the tail of your shirt.
HTH :D

To be fair the Comp EZ's needed replacing. Got the MacGregors for £200 from Direct Golf - given they were £450 when they came out it was the bargain factor and a getting a set of forged irons that appealed - plus they were nice to hit. However, i saw the MP60's at a good price and couldn't not buy them.

As for 'Rich' - i wish that was the case!! :(

I went for a lesson the other day and there was a guy in the shop who the pro told me was on his 6th set of titleist AP2's. The last 2 are the new model which have only been out 2 minutes!

I did go through a phase when I traded my R7's in (big mistake). I went to a set of X20's C/F and with steel shafts which I hated and then tried the same model at a demo day but with regular graphite and thought I'd cracked it. I saw the TM Tour Burners and was sold immediately. I loved them. I have upgraded to a set of R9's as I think they offer everything I need in a club to get me to single figures

I've been around the game long enough to know that. It's more a case of every time I go into a golf shop I see something on the rack that looks Sooo tempting. I am not daft enough to think I will become Tiger by buying new kit, I know the way to lower a handicap, lesson, practice, lesson, more practice. I am gonna have to stay away from the shops until it wears off.
