Woke up yesterday morning to discover that my BMW 1 series had been stolen from the driveway during the night -to say that i am annoyed and gutted would be an understatement. No glass on the floor and nobody heard the alarm go off and I still have both sets of keys. Because everything is computerized apparently the thieves can hack into the car. Insurers seem next to useless - I suppose they are trying to figure out how not to give me a new car.

Just wondering does anyone have any experience of how long it takes to get everything sorted? I appreciate everyone's circumstances may be different but my insurers wouldn't give me an idea.

Thanks

How ever long it takes for the police to find the car failing that then it will be how ever long the insurance company declare it a total loss as it might have been stripped down for parts

Sorry to hear about your car I have had a couple of cars stolen and its a horrable feeling. It was a long time ago but i can't remember having any issues with the insurance.

Bad news..........I think as long as the insurance companies happy you were not in on any scam, then all should be fine. I would want some answers from BMW as to how this is possible, after all, if it’s that easy then it’s not good on BMWs security as a selling point. BMW also need to keep ahead of the scammers.

Feel for you.

Seem to remember seeing that crims have found a way of acquiring BMW codes.

Hope it's found soon.

Once Crime Number is established and a 'reasonable period' for discovery/recovery, Insurance Companies are pretty good. If you can justify a rental in the mean time, then it could hurry them up too - as it costs them cash!

This is a massive massive problem atm with BMW cars. There is something wrong and BMW will not admit liability.

Yep it was on watchdog. You can get the gear online, it overrides the BMW ECU and you can drive off. I believe it also effects the 3 series.

Great work BMW.

Gutted for you mate, insurers may drag it out! Keep us posted

Well I popped into my BMW dealer to ask them why is it so easy to steal a BMW. It turns out they are aware of problems but do not consider it a specific BMW issue but an industry issue. It turns out they made a patch for the computer software for all pre 2011 cars to help deal with the problem however they did not think they needed to contact owners about it. They only tell you if you have your car worked on at a BMW dealer which I didn't. Clearly they haven't issued a recall for fear of bad press. Ridiculous
