Staying in Stirling for a few days, when we go the the Open. Taking our clubs and notice that our guest house is right next to Stirling Golf Club.

Has anyone played it, and is it worth playing ?

We will also be staying in St Andrews for the practice days of the Open, and will be looking for a game on the Monday and Tuesday. Does anyone know if all the St Andrews courses close for the week, and if so where should we look at playing. Apart from the four main courses in St Andrews, we have also played the Castle, as well as Ladybank, and would prefer somewhere new.

Thanks for any help.

It's a nice parkland course with some great views. I've not played it for a few years, but, we used to play it on a works outing every year. Always a popular trip that one. A fair course to play.

Re games around St Andrews, what about Lundin Links, not that far away.

It's ok, best driving a little south and playing Glenbervie IMO, you might even get a forumer or 2 helping you out with green fees.

Worth considering Scotscraig which is a short drive out of St Andrews itself north of RAF Leuchars, in St Andrews itself you could play the Dukes, you could also head out the Fife coast to Kingsbarns which is pricey but worth playing, a bit further to Crail and down the coast. You could consider heading to Lundin Links, Leven Links, Elie all a short drive to St Andrews and all worth playing. One thing for sure is you'll never be stuck for golf in Fife.

The Castle Course will be the only "town" course open for play in Open week. As mentioned above, plenty of other options within a 10 minute drive of the town.

Hi Steve. Just the two of us. Game at Scotscraig would be good.

I do like the look of Lundin links. Kingsbarns is unfortunatley out of budget. Think it is over £200 a round now.

Stirling looks like a decent parkland course, and hopefully in July should be in good condition. It is right on our doorstep so seems rude not to play it. ;)

Glenbervie is definitely one of the best inland courses in the area.

But if you are near Fife, it makes sense to play some Links Golf, and those that Val recommends are really good. Not played Crail, more's the pity, but Lundin just gets my nod over Leven - even with a few 'non-links' holes, that includes one of my favourite Par 3s!

Hi Rich thats spot on then, Kingsbarns is £226 this year its good but not that good. Lundin Links is good but the Fife clubs will bang up there green fees for that week i know ours is, Monifieth is worth a pop as well.

Richart, I can sort you out for a game at Glenbervie if it suits, any day except Thursday as I will be in hospitality at St Andrews, let me know if it is of interest.

Thanks for the offers guys. Most appreciated. Will start working on the HID's to see how many golfing days we can negotiate. Wish us luck.;)

Likewise happy to sign you guys on at Muchkart if you fancy a nice heathland course in the Ochil foothills with outstanding scenery :D

Can vouch for CreiginFife Muchart is a lovely course and looking forward to playing it again in the summer. The views are really stunning and the members made us feel right at home in the clubhouse :)

Stirling is a cracking course IMO just as good as glenbervie, I'm sure stirlings open is roundabout that time so the course should be in cracking condition, I play their open every year and it's never been bad any time iv played it.
