Still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up

Italia 90 was my first world cup, at a time when there wasn't much footie on TV to see so much of it was awesome.

Remember sitting down with my brother and old man to watch Cameroon kick the hell out of the Argies, good times.

Steve Bull was in the England squad too which was a great achievement for someone from outside of Division one :)

Wow! What are you doing to me?

I was on holiday in Italy with my wife and son during Italia90 (not all of it) and hearing Nessun Dorma always brings a huge smile to my face as me and my son (football writer of the year 2016) always bellow out "Vincero, Vincero) at the drop of a hat.

Concierto de Aranguez, however, makes my eyes leak whether it's a brass band in a film or the full acoustic guitar and orchestra.

You shouldn't have done this to me as I have to pack my suitcase for a week in the Maldives, flying tomorrow.

I was also in Italy during Italia90, Rimini. What cracking time watching the footie in a very Italian pub.

I won't be in the Maldives though, sunny Aberdeen...

Played golf in the Maldives on a small ( very small ) pitch and putt course on Kuredu. It has a lovely driving range. Am I not jealous you will be out there.
Dont take any shoes 👍😁

We were also in Rimini. Can't remember seeing anyone resembling your avatur.

Went to the England Cameroon Quarter Final. Headed to Rome the next day and had a fantastic night drinking at a pavement bar into the early hours with Irish fans who were still celebrating getting to the QF despite losing to the Italians. Brilliant atmosphere and a massive difference to the alcohol ban and police presence in Sorrento/Naples. Great times. I also distinctly remember seeing posters around Rome for the "Three Tenors concert".....and thinking.... I wonder what that's all about????......:o

England vs Holland, went out with the lads from work, watched the game and got smashed. One of them gave me a tug on his fag in a nightclub, I recall bouncers laughing at me as I puked my ring up outside 5 minutes later.
After the Cameroon game a bunch of us (my regular drinking pals back then) went and jumped over the wall at Millmoor, ran around the pitch doing roly polies until we got spooked by a noise in the corner, climbed a floodlight and back out, curry then bed.
Those were the days.

I was writing for a soccer magazine during Italia 90 and there were some great pieces on it. We did one about the projected trajectory of Waddle's penalty, when it would re-enter the earth's atmosphere etc. Another one on the revolting goalkeeper shirts and also one on the greatest foul in football history, when two Cameroon players tried to take out Caniggia of Argentina and missed and then along came Benjamin Massing who didn't.
