HID fired up the central heating tonight and the house is now red hot

The rad valves seemed to be stuck open so have no room control.

Any suggestions as to how to unstick the rad valves ?

Luckily I'll be out golfing tomorrow but suspect I'll come home to a sauna !

Usually I just change the trv as it'll just keep happening. If you do decide to change them don't buy cheap ones or you'll be doing the same in 18 months time.

Or the cowboy version is take the cover off, repeatedly tap gently with a small hammer and get some long nose pliers to help pull the pin up. Once up a little wd40 and a wiggle.. it's not a long term fix and as Stu says, they will stick again! But beats draining the system this year!

You really shouldn't use Wd40 on them, as it will cause the rubber seals to swell, and deteriorate. I used to design TRVS. Sometimes the seals are nitrile, some times epdm. Only one of these is oil resistant.

Don't pull the pin, just a few gentle taps down on it is usually all that's needed.
The pin can pull completely out quite easily on certain valves.

I've fixed a few of those DIY disasters:rofl:

I did one this week, a school caretaker pulled the pin right out on a Danfoss valve.

He Then attempted a live snatch with a 15mm ball o fix with 2 bar pressure on a commercial system with the pressurisation unit on.

He got a bit wet as did the office and his hands were quite red.
