I think you just need to put it behind you as "one of those rounds". Everybody has one from time to time. Next week you'll probably have a stormer.Chin up mate.

Well today I played my first comp of the year, and my first comp for about 12 years. It was just a Stableford, nothing important so no pressure, but I have been looking forward to it all the same.
I got my Handicap of 10 and walked up to the 1st tee in a good mind set, and then proceeded to play the worst golf I can remember, I walked off the 18th feel very low.
To sum it up, I got 24 points with 7 blobs. Couldn't hit my wedge from any distance, I hit about 3 shanks and hit 3 drives OOB right. If there are any positives (thats debateable) I suppose my putting was alright and I hit some good approach shots. If it wasn't for playing the last few holes well, I would be finding it hard to pick up my clubs again and make an appearance next week. It's the first round of golf I haven't enjoyed for a long time, maybe comps aren't for me, or I just need to get some lessons and a brain transplant

Unlucky mate.

Everyone has bad rounds. I didnt play anywhere near as good as i can this morning and if it wasn't for some good putting it could have been alot worse.

Look on the bright side the only way is up ;)

I have only just started playing at my new place and as I am trying to be accepted within a new group of lads I am finding myself incredibly nervous when playing. I am not usually like this so I have not showed my true game yet.Hopefully in a few weeks I will have settled and can start to play better, I'm not playing badly, just not as well as I know I can, so I feel your pain mate.

I can feel your pain through the computer mate

Theres always next weeks medal to look forward to and the week after that etc

A bad round does not make a bad golfer and after all you've only just started out again so have a little patience and things will click into gear

Chin up mate, like a few others have said, it's just one of those rounds.
If you look back though you had 7 blobs and still got 24pts so playing to your handicap was roughly 22pts with 7 holes not scoring. So to be fair you haven't done that bad when you look at your scoring.
It's always a positive when you haven't played great and still scored decently. :)
You'll be back to your full potential shortly... :)

I started the medal by driving OB. Fought hard to record a good front nine and then the swing went AWOL with the driver on the back nine with five doubles chucked in to make absolutely sure of getting my 0.1 back.

Relax as I'm sure sub-consciously at least there was a bit of tension and some nerves. Even at club stableford level there is always a bit of pressure and after ten years I'm sure you probably just tried a little too hard early on. Get back into playing comps regularly and I'm sure it'll come. If you're off 10 you can't be that bad a player to start with

Don't let a bad knock get you down mate, pick yourself up dust yourself down and learn from it.

One of my worst ever rounds was in a medal when i carded a 109 with a 12 on a par 3, i felt like walking off at that point but i knew if i had i'd never return.

Since then i've done better and when i'm not playing very well i try to frighten myself with that day as a what's happenend before.

How did you get your 10 h/cap? Surely it wasn't because you blob 7 holes every time you play?

I'm guessing to get your h/cap you must have played 3 rounds with a card in your hand? A comp is no different than that, I figure you talked yourself out of your swing for a day... no worries it'll probably be there next time.

I don't know if you've tee'd it up an a forum meet yet... that'll get the nerves janglin' :)

Sorry, but you're crying over nothing.

Of course 24 points isn't good but it ain't that bad. That's the sort of score that someone posts at our place each week to "lose" the swindle. Regular as pie, someone will post a low twenties.

Now if it was something as low as, say, 15 points then I can see that you'd have a valid reason to berate yourself - but not in the twenties. Everyone is entitled to a bad round occasionally so forget it.

Ps - you may ask how many I scored yesterday. It's one of the two figures I've mentioned and it wasn't 24...

TBH I knew I may be underestimating what constitutes a bad stableford score. Im a bit out of touch, and have some catching up to do. I just thought of it afterwards as if it was Strokeplay, I wouldn't have broke 90 maybe not even 100 and I haven't shot worse than 85 for months. Nevermind, im over it now.

7 points around the Brabazon.
Now that is a score to get upset about.
:o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o
Played in a Company day round the Derby at the Belfry - one guy scored.....

Nil Points
Not a sausage
Bugger all

Now that's a score to be worried about...
