after years of standing watching my daughter playing golf, I thinking am I to old to take up golf, being 36, a dodgy wrist that got smashed to bits doing taekwondo & now suffering from occasional nose & ear hair :), i've never played golf, hit a few balls when my daughters having a rest at the range & thats the extent of my experience, I love the technical aspect of golf but never really had a desire to play until now, could I get to a half decent level, what do you think.

Abso bloomin lutely.
Loads of people take up golf later on in life and become quite good as they have more patience to learn than some youngsters.
Go for it. :)

GET INVOLVED!!! :o

You won't regret it.

cheers bob, im just wondering if I have the right temperament for golf, nice & relaxed when i'm watching, but the few swings i've had when I stuff it right & left, I mutter some $&*%@ & the daughter saying, not easy is it lol

I'm 35, used to play loads of other sports, and take part in various outdoor ativities.

The only thing I regret is not taking up golf sooner, even with a dodgy shoulder and back I still manage to hit plenty of decent shots (well thats what I class them as, others wouldn't.)Lol LOL I started in March now playing to 24 steadily, hitting 200+ yd woods, and very rarely 3putting.

My advice would be to practise down the range after a lesson to get the very basics in order. Then when your confident in heading to the course, go for it. You'll meet plenty of other beginners and keen golfers willing to share a round and advice with you.

Welcome to this crazy adictive, frustrating, fantastic game.

Keep us posted how your getting on.

Never too late to take up this wonderful game.

I started after watching the Ryder Cup European victory in 2006. Had a few lessons, swung at the range then joined a club. Found that playing golf on grass was NOT like smacking 'em down the range. Didn't enter a competition until late 2008 through fear of not being good enough.
Generally went up to the course when I could and when time allowed.
Played a few competitions in 2009 (Stableford) and felt progress was being made in the Autumn.
Started 2010 seriously and entered more competitions (including medals!)
Saw progress being made throughout the season, just let down by my putting.
Practised on the greens a bit, culminating in my best ever round on the last competition of the season and first cut in my handicap.

Now at the stage where I am loving this game and enjoying my game.

Get going mate, it's a great game.

Ha, she was giving me a hammering earlier on, I had one of her clubs in the house, daughter ""what are you doing, your grips wrong, your shoulders are aiming left, your right knee is straight etc etc lol

Never too old to take it up, my dad only took it up at the end of last year and he is 56 and he can get round most courses with a reasonable score. Deffintley get some lessons though or you will pick up bad habbits like i did when i first started playing and have had to spend most of this summer trying to fix them but i'm slowly getting there.

And don't be put off if you spend alot of time shanking and duffing your first shots becasue it happens to everyone but trust me when you first nail it and the ball flys into the sky and straight like it's ment to it will all feel worth it.

One very important thing to remember when starting out in golf, you must never, ever, ever share a V-Easy.
If you lend yours out, you may never get it back, isn't that right Homer?
Get one each ;) :p

It's never too late. I played football then tennis and took up golf at about 45 years old and now am close to 58

I play twice a week and have the odd lesson, go to the range a couple of times a week. I have got to 11 handicap and got my name on the honours board at my club 3 times and I am still desperate to get down to single figures. I am no natural at all and have had a hip replacement and will soon need the other done and had a knee cruciate graft as well - so if I can do it so can you!

Go for it

Chris

Go for it, if you taking your daughter out anyway then why not. Only started playing this year myself at 30 and though I wish I would of started earlier, i'm glad I didn't wait any longer. Wether you can get to a decent level is down to you.
