Whilst I agree completely with the sentiments of this months star letter I believe the award should have went to the "play up to speed up" letter.
It makes so much sense to do this but players are reluctant to do it as they "might find the ball soon" or "we'll give it another minute or two before calling them through".
There is no way to define a play through or a call up. Someone needs to develop an universal sign for a "call up" and it should become common place and etched onto the tablets that were given to us by the great man from a Glasgow muni.
At the minute if you wave, its simply a play through gesture. If you find your ball while they are teeing off, it can often lead to arguments if you decided to play on and not let the group through. At the same time, you are wasting time by standing there with the found ball.
A definitive "play up" gesture would keep things ticking over and allow play to resume asap if the lost ball is found in good time.
so whats this gesture going to be then? smoke signals, haka dance or just plain hollerin!
